You may joke, but are their any building regs that prohibit installing a diesel generator and fuel tank in ones loft.
Seems dangerous to me!! Not to mention noisy! How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)0 -

I think I have seen one of these being unboxed and run in a workshop on YouTube if it's the red boxed Chinese thing.
Not noisy but I would not like something like that in the loft I would want to see it working and failing and the possible hazard if it does fail. (Easily accessible would be the plan and as you wear a lot of layers perhaps you won't get up into the loft fats enough should.sokerhjnf go pop)0 -
I think it also depends on where your house is.
Isolated detached farm house....fill your boots. But does fuel have to be in specific bunded tanks? If over x litres.
Semi detached on a normal residential street...hmmm.
I can't remember what sort of house HL has? How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)0 -
It might be one of these
And a review after 400 hours runtime
We are still considering one of these for the garage gym to get the warm air flowing on the rare -2 to -6oC days so the air to air heat pump doesn't have to struggle away.1 -
I hope he lives in a detached house cos if he lives in a semi or a terraced and it's any one of those above, the sound is going to travel through the loft and bother the neighbours.0

I think this country has an obsession with a little bit of noise
We do live in the country and it is "deadly" silent of an evening but the ASHP's can be heard whirring and likely this type of unit won't be much more 60DB.
What I don't know is if a loft acts like a loud speaker and amplifies sound?0 -

An example of noise and structural transmission, I put my mum's washing machine on isolation matts so she can run it to be finished first thing in the morning ready to hang up and ideally outside on dry days. In the utility room the sound level is only slightly quieter that it was before because the direct sound has not really been reduced, however before when it was on spin it was quite noticeable in her bedroom because the vibrations passed through the floor into the structure, now it is impossible to tell it is running from her bedroom.0 -
Sound waves and vibrations can do strange things if they harmonise with their environment.
