However I DO like a hot meal so will occasionally mix up a big pan of veg stew with lots of seasoning for flavour.

anyone know of a radiator that you can fill with hot water from the kettle? I guess the best alternative is a hot water bottle.

And I'm pretty sure that if you were in a room at 10C, you wouldn't be sat still in a chair in shorts and a vest - not quite so alarming after all.5 -

Sitting around in layers is a serious way of saving money - i.e. opposite of sitting around in T-shirt and shorts!
Layers mean you do not have to put heating on (medical conditions and other circumstances I am not aware of apart). Yes, would love heating on 24/7 but even in well insulated house of 4 beds and detached not sure I could afford that for no reason that it would be 'nice'.
