I find a combination of solar panels, solar domestic hot water heating, a log burner and portable gas heaters using bottled gas costs me hardly anything in operating costs. Added to that I'm expecting £900 from UK Gov' + whatever the new PM decides to give me might mean I will make a profit.....1

Honestly, base layers are brilliant, relatively cheap and don't make you look like you're on a ski holiday. But not something we've ever got into the habit of wearing in the UK.4

Even the humble vest may make a comeback. Worked for my grandparents 😉How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)4 -

Might paint the house white if this continues lol.

I'm not going to shoot you down as others have here as you were trying to be helpful. At my age 74 I cannot go without heating in the cold weather with umpteen layers on as cold air on my face especially my nose feels very uncomfortable. I will try your advice on keeping legs warm as although I wear trousers, i will buy some thermal long John's.

But please, please, don’t make me wear a ‘liberty bodice’ (misnomer anyone?) with rubber buttons which were impossible to fasten/unfasten with frozen fingers😂3 -
