Good to hear from you Hertslad. I was always in this thread thinking no no no. You did explain somewhere that its also as well a bit of fun and interest to do. I do get that. 
Gonna look back and try some of the clothing you recommended for next winter.

Edit.  But not going the no heating way. No way.

Interesting read, not least for the ferocity and anti feeling the OP got for saying how they live their life and sharing their thoughts. A real eye opener. But then they were different times back in Feb🤣🤣

OK so we won't go this far but we have looked at better insulating clothing and dropping the temperature a few degrees.

Theres a level where we will be comfortable but not burning through cash and when we find it hopefully we can afford it lol.

OP made me think of Hannah Hauxwell who lived most of her life on a rundown farm in the Yorkshire Dales with no electricity or running water. There were TV shows in the 70s and 80s about her life.

I haven't read the whole thread but I was brought up in a very cold house (it was just always cold even with the heating on) and we wore extra clothing in winter.  I run into an issue a lot at work now where I cannot stand working in the office because despite having the radiators on at max, the staff insist on having fan heaters on by their desks because they are cold.  Mid-winter and they are cold because they are wearing short sleeved thin tops.  They cannot understand the concept of wearing thicker clothing because it is winter and it's cold. They expect to wear the same clothes they do in the summer and to be warm.  It makes no sense at all to me, and I cannot bear working in an over heated office with the dry heat thrown out by fan heaters.

I say again - I am not cold at 2C. I remain perfectly warm because of the specific clothes I wear as detailed in earlier posts. Any colder, and I really can't say. No way minus 20C or even -10C My house doesn't seem too bad. For people who simply can't afford such huge costs for heating, they could perhaps take a small risk in terms of the property. i.e. keep themselves alive, then sort out the home later. A halfway measure would be to set the thermostat to 12C. I know it was about that temperature in May and early June, some days and I wasn't very cold, despite wearing only 'normal' clothes.

@HertsLad do you have any specific product recommendations for clothing and base layers, heated blanket etc? Or tips on materials etc. Merino,  polyester etc.

I live in Germany and there is a chance we are facing a crisis this winter.  Not just higher prices, but also not enough gas. Rationing is likely,  emergency laws that allow energy provides to essentially cancel fixed price contracts could come in to effect soon. Meaning people paying 6ct kWh will have a real shock. I'm trying to get ahead of any panic buying of winter related products.

Bet she has a wood/coal stove Most people did until the 70's.

Alnat1 good thought . Just had to read about Hannah Hauxwell. Similar in that they share how they live or lived.
