Presumably it would still be possibly to change from 30 min reads if you wished? All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -

BEIS, for once, is ahead of the game. It has commissioned the development of a time-of-use tariff comparison tool that extracts 12 months of data from a smart meter - based on 30 minute usage. The tool then uses this data to list the cheapest tariff based on the tariff prices and historical times-of-use. For PCWs wanting to make use of this tool - or develop one of their own - they will either have to become Registered DCC Users or partner with an organisation that is. Data is only extracted from a smart meter with the consumer's permission (which is renewable annually) using what is known as secure Adapter software. Each smart meter holds up to 13 months' worth of import data in XML files.
The tool works. I had the opportunity to play around with it during the development phase.0 -
As I report on another thread - Welcome to the situation as in Norway.
There they are implementing a maximum demand tarrif for everyone
So if you use more than a certain amount over a 1 hour period then you will be charged a higher rate for the rest of the month.
Not dissimilar from the large industrial users maximum MVA tariff which worked on the same sort of principle except it was an instantaneous breach of the limit agreed that resulted in the penal charge.
My employer used so much energy we had in-house generators we fired up if we got near to the limit.

Personally I'm very happy with my smart meter sending 30 minute data. It's enabling me to pay just 5p per kWh for > 75% of my electricity usage.0
