    As far as I am aware the contract doesn't actually end in Nov 2022, it just comes to the end of the minimum term and will carry on for months or years until it is specifically terminated, either by the owner of the contract or Vodafone.

    If the contract is in his name (which is sounds like it is) then the responsibility to pay the bill is his. 
    If he cancels the DD then yes, it will negatively impact him and his credit score etc. The provider will want the bills paid. 

    Options are limited really, you either cancel it and pay up the contract till Nov 2022. Or carry on paying the monthly DD.
