Storage heater help please
My mum is moving into a flat soon but the seller doesn’t have instructions for the storage heating.
There is a Creda 79142 in the hall with 2 controls which I understand, but the other heater in the lounge only seems to have one control on the side, plus a boost slider on top (see photos) Can anyone help with how this one works please?

Thank you 😊

Hi,the numbered control will be the input, it should spin round anticlockwise to the arrow (0), then adjust for input/heat setting, 6 being max. Would suggest input to 3/4 to start with, then adjust up/down depending on heat needed. The slider will control a flap inside, off being closed, can be opened up later in day to release more heat, but best to shut down at night.

Thank you. So even with the boost off, heat will gradually be released throughout the day at a steady pace?
I can now see how the dial turns - do you think the orange markers are showing how to line up where the previous occupant had it set? I can’t see an arrow.

is it worth changing the heater to one with an output control (similar to the Creda)?
Thanks for your advice.0 -
Hi,the arrow/pointer is to left of number 1.Has the dial broken? You will just need to experiment with settings to suit level of heat you need, and yes it will still give out heat with boost off, idea is to retain heat overnight/during day, then open later in day if more heat needed, though I've always kept boost/outputshut.No need to replace it if working ok.What tariff are you on, E7?1

I’m not sure if the dial is broken or if that’s how it is supposed to operate. I pushed at the thumb mark in my first post photo - the dial flipped inwards and then allowed me to turn it, moving the orange marker around the numbers.
I think I’ll try leaving it with the 2 orange markers lined up to start off with, then adjust as you suggest once we see what heat we get.
Do you happen to know the make/model of this heater?
The electric meter shows 3 readings so my next call is to Scottish Power to get Mum set up with an account - I’m guessing it will be Economy 7 / White Meter.
She’s moving from gas to this in a retirement flat, so I need to make sure she’s cosy 😊
Thanks again0 -
Hi,sorry, don't know the heater, though looks like a Creda.Oh well, as long as dial working, though would've thought would just spin round with a bit of pressure on the finger grooves.3 readings, could be Comfort Plus Control where the heaters get a top up during the day on the cheaper rate. What about immersion heater, have you got that sussed?1

The 3 readings could also be day, night & total, do 2 of the readings added together give you the 3rd? If so, make sure you only give the 2 lower reads to your energy company1

You are all so helpful!
I’ll try the heater dial again to see if it spins as you suggest.
There are 3 meter readings - and the meter replacement label appears to confirm this - guess I need to ask Scottish Power how it works with timings etc.

Think I should be ok with hot water as there is an instruction leaflet. Guessing I’ll set it up as timed over the night time period?
Any other handy hints would be much appreciated before she moves in 🙂

Hi,be careful SP don't talk you into a fixed contract, once signed up you can switch if you wish, if you can find a better deal.1

Yes! I’m ready for that conversation (been watching Martin so will be fighting to start off on the standard variable rate).[Deleted User] said:Hi,be careful SP don't talk you into a fixed contract, once signed up you can switch if you wish, if you can find a better deal.1 -
If you've got three different meter registers - and it looks very much as though you do - you've probably got "complex metering".It's not the end of the world but it does make life more complicated.N.
