Afternoon all

Like everyone I have a couple of years of holidays stored up and am now trying to work out the best options for roaming. Its a bit confusing as while many of them say that they will allow you to buy an addon to use your data in Europe, they then say they have a fair usage limit that applies which is often very low.

I am currently with EE with two differing rules - one predates the change date and one doesnt. The one that predates has 50GB of fair use and the other (my daughters phone) has 12GB fair use.

Does anyone have any better options? The 12GB particularly will get blown through in no time

    O2 has 25GB/month fair use. https://www.o2.co.uk/help/pay-monthly/roaming-in-europe

Tesco Mobile is a virtual network running on O2 & doesn't appear to have a fair use clause - if it's in your monthly package you can apparently use it all in Europe https://www.tescomobile.com/help/roaming-and-international/before-you-go-abroad

How will you get through 12GB so easily? Use WiFi when you are in the hotel.

  • I'm with EE having continued my contract for several years, so I thought things would be hunkydory with roaming. I am now in Germany, on day 5 of my visit and have suddenly been switched from normal roaming (4G) to Edge. It is now impossible to access anything on my mobile.

Be warned! If you are planning a short visit it should be okay, but I have to come over for work and sometimes stay a few weeks. I will be researching alternatives asap.

Update: not quite impossible, but very slow - I was trying to use a transport app while travelling but it only worked once I stopped travelling and was in the same place. Then it took about 30 seconds to load.

Have you tried turning your phone off and on again?
Did your network change when the data type changed? You could manually select the better network.
