I am starting my new year frugality now, as we were lucky enough to be able to get to Australia to see family for two months.Welcome back Carolbee - you were in my mind over the weekend as I thought you should be back by now. I hope you had a great time and a lovely birthday too. Whereabouts did you get to? My aim is remote QLD later this year - perhaps!Izzy - happy haircut.Carolbee12 -
Morning everyone
Happy Birthday Jackie - have a lovely day - it sounds like you have been thoroughly spoilt already.
Well I'm still off sick - a bit fed up now but I know that only rest will help. I had little one overnight on Saturday so DD could go to a wedding - I was shattered and realised how ill I still feel. She was very good at occupying herself - I just felt like I didn't have a lot of patience, which isn't like me at all. DD had a lovely time - she needed a break after being in the hospital. There's no one else can have little one overnight, or for more than a couple of hours through the day, as she needs to be on her oxygen and her milk feed overnight. She does go to her daddy's house but not to stay and only when it suits him really!
Well I have men digging down the side of my house so fingers crossed the council must be putting my new fences in soon - they seem to be making holes ready for fence posts. It will be lovely to have an enclosed garden again rather than a big open space!
Camelot - hope you feel ok back at work. Pleased you enjoyed your sleepover with your little one.
Bellabella - sausages are lovely cooked in the air fryer....I discovered one day when I'd forgotten to turn the oven on.
Coxy - ouch at your sofa price!
Izzybee - I've had to cancel my hair appointment twice now - I look terrible
Carolbee - hope you enjoyed your time in Australia
Well it's very noisy so I may as well get up! I might get the bus along to the post office later as I have my old passport to send away.
I took a new medication this morning as I was recently diagnosed with osteoarthritis - I'm a bit concerned about side effects, but so far so good.
Hope everyone has a good day today - wrap up warm x14 -
Morning all, car windscreens frozen this morning. I don't seem to get on here at weekends these days, it's a mad dash in the mornings both days to go and watch DGC play football matches and then fit everything else in after! I think yesterdays match should have been called off really, the weather was atrocious- swirling winds, rain and hailstones blowing right into DGDs face, didn't half sting. We had a meal out on Sat night with our oldest friends, who haven't been out for 2 years as both are vulnerable and were nervous, but we had a nice time and it was lovely to be waited on. Prices have gone up thoughStill making inroads in the freezer stock, a small gammon joint & an apple crumble taken out for last nights tea - actually have space to freeze a loaf now
Chicken breasts taken out to make tonights Thai curry.
Have a lovely day JackieONice work on the gown Gers, and who knew Zandra Rhodes would design academic gowns Bella, I thought they'd be all bog standard ones, I know DS1 just hired his cap and gown when he graduated.Right better have a tidy up, I can't go out , my new phone is being delivered. Decided on a new one after much deliberating, the battery is degraded and hardly lasts now if I go out , plus I always end up with a cast off from one of DS. The last one from DS2 was very scratched when it was handed down to me so I've decided to treat myself. Hope you all have a good day x

Morning, hugs if you need one. Just 3 nights to go before we get our bedroom back......can't wait, have been awake since 4am.... Jackie, hope you have a lovely birthday, enjoy!!
Foot lady has been this morning, so nice feet, back again in 8 weeks.
Very cold, we had a frost, but its cleared now. I have to go down to the village with our scripts for renewal, meant to take them on Saturday, forgot.
Another load of washing done, most of it will go in the dryer, just a couple of things need hanging. I have to do my own cleaning for 2 weeks, cleaner is still not well. Have done the wet room and toilet, next is the kitchen......the sitting room will have to wait.
Easy supper, egg and chips, will finish off the oranges in jelly for dessert.10 -
Good Morning everyone and thank you for all the lovely birthday wishes. I have been so spolit by my family and friends,I feel as though I am having an extra looong birthday this year. Started on Saturday night with dinner at my eldest daughter Shelley's with her my son-in-law and his Mum Margaret had a really lovely evening with a great meal.
Then yesterday spent the afternoon at my eldest granddaughters with her husband Tom and their two little girls .They are the apple of my eye bless them at 2 and almost 4 its like groundhog day as I helped bring their mum and uncles up from tiny. Serious games of Buckaroo and a magnetic fishing game ensuedhad a lovely big chocolate and caramel birthday cake as well as a super Sunday lunch.
Tonight I am at my youngest daughters Tessa's and my dear son-in-law Simon's with two of the boys for dinner. I think they are all making up for the past two restricted birthdays of lockdown.
My phone has been 'dinging' since 7.00 this morning. From my dear grandson Henry, just had several messages as he is up in Essex at Uni,and from my other DGD Ben his big brother who is on his way to work in north london.
My eldest DGS Danny will facetime me from his home in NYC at lunchtime as its the middle of the night at the moment for him. I am so lucky to have so many nice friends and relations bless them all.Just had a text from DGS Jack he starts his new placement today on his teacher training course and I will see him later at his Mum's ,even my youngest DGD Mikey texted me on his way to school where he is in the middle of mocks for his A levels. I am truly blessed with my tribe and love the bones off them all.
Just about to phone my oldest friend and sis-in-law Val as she has been allowed home from hospital,(she is staying at her daughters for a short while to recuperate ) best gift of all was hearing that she was getting out of hospital this weekend .
Well what have I learned from the past year , well I am older, and perhaps a bit slower in my walking speed ,but still hopefully have all my marbles. I have made a few new friends where people seem to be kinder to each other , I sadly have lost a few through age and covid. But on the whole I am reasonably happy with life. I have hugged my sad grandson Jack when he broke up with his girlfriend and giggled with my great grandchildren Erin and Ida.
This year will be a tough one for many folk with all the impending doom and gloom of high utilities and food going up.But I try not to worry too much, as long as I have the love of my family and friends its the best thing to keep me warm and cheerful.
I have tighened my belt many times over the past decades, so it won't be too bad, and out will come my thinking cap of how can I streetch this or that, and we will all survive and life will go on eventually.
But today the sun is shining and at the moment the sky is blue, I have a cuppa by myside and a couple of ginger nuts so life is pretty good
Lastly of course I have had some super messages from all on here, both via the site and on my phone ,so to each and everyone a huge thank you from a slightly slower old lady in north Kent who witters on aabout her family and daft things to keep us all motivated
Love to each and every one of you stay safe and keep warm we are all important to each other

Hi everyone,
I had a very busy weekend so didn't manage to post and didn't even manage to read yesterday's thread until this morning. We're down to just us and Steve's sister today and it will be a very quiet one because I am shattered.
We went to Norwich on Saturday to see the cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason, it was a wonderful concert and the acoustics in the church were magnificent. It was full but everyone seemed to be masked and Steve and I wore FFP2 masks so hopefully we will be ok. We also had a lovely meal beforehand, Norwich doesn't seem to have suffered over the last two years as much as Cambridge has and still seems very vibrant, it's a lovely city, but cold.
Yesterday everyone but Crystal (who was at her brother's 30th celebration) was here for Steve's birthday meal. We had a lovely piece of pork and all the trimmings followed by rhubarb crumble and birthday cake. I need to think of a meal for the three of us tonight but my brain isn't working very well.
We won't be seeing Esben this week so I'll miss him, he's learning things at a great rate atm. I've said before how much he loves singing and often sings as he's playing, keeping a running commentary on what he's doing but he really took my breath away yesterday. He was playing with his sticker book and to the tune of Frere Jacques sang " Where's the helicopter, where's the helicopter, there it is, there it is, put it in the clouds, put it in the clouds, it's ok, it's ok." I couldn't believe a two and a quarter year old would come up with something like that, I couldn't do it now.
Happy birthday Jackie.
Have a good day, everyone.14 -
Happy birthday Jackie, sounds like a lovely time.11

Morning all. Give me an appointment and it seems ot throw out my whole day and take me that long to recover from it. Infusion done and there's another one, I thought this one was going to be the last. Magic cupboard is full and washing merrily away, may do some washing later on, OH is on lates and went to bed at a stupid time so I have to be a church mouse. That is always difficult
Cats don't seem to be scratching as much so hopefully the new flea stuff worked. Still getting half a hoover container of dust from upstairs, that must be because of the uncovered floorboards, another reason to get this place done...I've got my I want to chuck things out again head on, spring must be coming, I did notice the chives have sprouted and there are signs of bulb life...
Jackie, have a fabulous birthday! It's very heartening to hear all about your family, glad your sil is home, I envy you your family, it's not something I ever thought about when I was yougner but good family and friends are really the only important thing. I don't have much left [ that I knew growing up so I know what I'm missing] carolbee, welcome back, glad you had a good time away. Gers, it's lovely that you are finding places for all the things your DM loved and was proud of. Rosy, woop woop, red letter day! enjoy a shiny new phone toyCoxy, 'ulp! that's a lot of moolah in these times...Take care everyone, cozy casserole for ones that need a bit of care...

Good morning all, still not posting anywhere very often - hands are so very painful, but have to drop in to wish Jackie O the very happiest of birthdays.
Bella I think that when you start using the air fryer you will find it very useful. I bought a small one which we used a lot for sausage, chips, wedges, re-heating already cooked pies, crumbed fish etc and great for jacket potatoes started off in the MW. It lives in the caravan now as I bought a Ninja Grill/air fryer machine which roasts/bakes/ de-hydrates/air fries and grills.
It sounds from the above that we only eat pre-made unhealthy food!! although it is only once or twice a week, except for J pots which OH loves.
Take care all, hugs and spoons available. The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)12 -
Morning all and a very, very Happy Birthday JackieO.
What a dreadful day it was yesterday with all the rain and wind. It was so depressing that I even closed the curtains a bit earlier just so I didn't have to look at it. A little frost overnight, today is a bit on the dull side but it's much calmer. I hope it stays that way as I need to go to the PO this afternoon.
Yesterday's baking got done - a large custard tart, a tray of cornflake flapjacks, a dozen coconut tartlets and some sesame topped pastry rounds from the pastry trimmings that we can have with soup. There was some mash and broccoli left over from yesterday that I'll make into bubble & squeak cakes - they're always handy to fill up the breakfast plate! Dinner tonight is chicken & mushroom pie from the freezer, swede and mash.
Enjoyed the evening's telly - David Attenborough, the Good Karma Hospital and Trigger Point. Not so good was the big boss of Tesco saying even higher food prices are to come. Not helpful (under statement) - I can see it every time I go shopping! I must have had my grumpy head on as there were a few somewhat unladylike utterances directed towards the TV! I feel so sorry for those who are already struggling, it must be giving them nightmares.
Right, back to the daily chores so I'll leave you all to get on with your day - hope it's a good one. X
Be kind to others and to yourself too.12
