my father in law has a old citroen car. Parker’s say it’s worth a couple of hundred pounds. Is currently SORN and he has given up driving. It would cost about £100 to get it insured, mot and tax. So we are looking at scraping it. Does anyone have any recommendations of who to go to. I see there are national companies that buy scrap cars but I am not sure if any are better or worse. Many thanks.
This isn't the 1980's.  There's not a chance that you can insure, MOT and tax a car for £100.  But then again, a car which is drivable and MOT'd is worth more than a couple of hundred pounds.

What you need to do depends on what condition it's in.  If it's a pile of rust on wheels and isn't worth trying to get running again, call a scrapyard.  If it's a good car that just needs a service and MOT, then it's worth at least a few hundred pounds sold to a local backstreet dealer, who will prep it and sell it on for maybe a couple of thousand.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

@Ectophile This is a really old post. My father in law has been dead for 18 months. We were talking about getting it back on the road for a month to sell so we wouldn’t be paying for a years worth of insurance and tax, although obviously we would have to claim a refund for the unused tax. We got £312 for the car for scrap so that is what we did. All they cared about was the catalytic converter. It started first time with a power pack thing. The scrap price varied quite a bit. From memory it went up about £70.

@Ectophile This is a really old post.
The post was resurrected by a spammer (quoted by Barkin a couple of posts up) who has had their post removed.  It's always annoying when spammers resurrect ancient posts.

have scrapped a few cars over the last few years. The easiest way is to just google car scrappers and just get a load of quotes. Usually get a range from between chancers offering to take it for nothing to offering you £350 and everything in between.   Ive found the best offers are usually not the big national companies but the local scrap car dealer who will often come same day, as opposed to the larger nationals who cant come for a week or so. Some offer a higher price then try to beat you down when they get there. Be firm, if theve made the effort to come to you they'l usually pay what they offered.
