Moved house no gas delay
Options
Hello I was sobering if this normal or what I can do about it!
I have moved into a house yesterday (exchange/complete on same day) the house has been done up by housing developers and was originally empty for over 3 years. We have gone to ask meter and it says Scottish energy on the pre paid card. (We want DD but that’s another problem). Went the shop they said card doesn’t work. Phoned Scottish power they said would take 21 days to get it switched on but atm not taking any more customers. Contacted British Gas. They said 28 days to turn on if we do it online. Went online. Also says not taking any more customers are price too volatile and ‘we suggest you stay with current supplier’ Basically we have no way of getting any gas. And to make it worse the shower isn’t electric. So we have a cold house with no way of getting cleaned and no way of getting gas turned on.
We think the gas has been turned off to the actual house and not the meter as such. We don’t care if it’s pre pay or anything at moment just we hdvd nowhere else to go and need showers for work. This should of been best start to new home but it’s ruined. There was no way we could of known this was going to happen as we had no idea when we would complete the sale
do we have any options TIA

Welcome to the forum.Don't use the existing card; worst case the account will have the previous owner's debt plus three years of unpaid standing charges. If you have a live connection and a meter you will have a supplier (unless there's been a rare database error). You can find out who the supplier is here:Contact them with your address and details, tell them you've just moved in and need a new PAYG account. And please let us know how you get on.N. thanks for info QrizB They site brought up a company called Pozitive Energy. And transporter is cadent gas. A quick look at pozitive energy not much info on them but it website says it’s commercial properties and business’s. I will call them regardless Monday morning. But it was never a commercial property it’s a Victorian terrace. I do know the people who done the house up had about 12 houses so maybe they have an account with them.

Take a look at this thread and proceed very carefully, you do not want to end up on a business account with Pozitive.

The timescales Scottish Power and British Gas have given are for a new supply. It appears your property has a supply?
Definitely worth reading the thread linked above and perhaps follow the same course of action as the poster there by attempting a switch to EDF on the SVT (must be done by phone). The OP on that thread never came back to report, hopefully that means their switch was successful and they're now on a domestic rate with EDF. Not sure how that would leave it with Pozitive Energy, assuming you will have to settle something with them if gas has been used. I would be very wary of contacting them, make sure you state in no uncertain terms that the property is residential, not commercial, and you do not wish to enter a contract with them.0 -
Did this not crop up in your house conveyancing process?
I'm just selling a house that hasn't been lived in for a while (I've stayed over whilst clearing it) and there was a question in the property details form about fuel sources and whether water, gas and electric are connected, who are the suppliers and the buyers solicitor sent a question over asking us to confirm that they'd still be connected at completion. In fact, the heating is still switched on in the empty house as we're supposed to complete 'any day' (low temp on the thermostat, it's a condition of the insurance).
So were you misled in that process?0 -

We thought it had a gas supply but on the boiler the error code relates to no gas getting to the boiler. So that’s why think it’s has been stopped actually getting to the meter.
regarding BG I just went to ‘moving house’ section and filled in details etc as they was our supplier in our previous rented property and it said they can’t offer a competitive rate. I have read that thread and we certainly won’t be ringing them if we dont have too. We will try call EDF.I mean how is it even allowed to be a commercial supplier in a residential house
BOOJEWELS
don’t get me started on the conveyancers seemed very slow and not very professional. We are 1st time buyers so had no clue it can be this hard. We will look through the info that got sent over from them and see if there’s anything that can be done in regards to this.Basically though we need a residential supplier that can connect us asap Hopefully within a week or so. Is this even feasible in current market
Thanks again everybody0 -
I suspect the SP PP card is a red herring - probably a very old one from days gone by and certainly before Positive EnergyNever pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

From your other thread you have bought from a property developer - perhaps that explains the business supplier/Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

Is the gas isolation valve inside the house turned so the gas is on?0
