Opened 1yr fix with First Save this morning only after struggling to get online as it wouldn't accept my password. Tried the reset password option but whilst the email with the 2nd half of the temporary password arrived the 1st half was nowhere to be seen where it should have been.

Rang customer services who could not have been more helpful and stayed on the phone until everything was sorted and I had full access again.

Very impressed with the quality of customer service.

I do like the online platform run by Newcastle Building Society and used by others including First Save. Much prefer it to the one used by many building societies.

I might try First Save if their CS is good, despite their web site that looks like it was 'save for web' from Publisher 25 years ago.  I rang Charter this morning and the bloke I spoke to was verging on unpleasant - if he's like that at 08:05, goodness only knows what he'll be like by the end of his shift.  Maybe he's not a morning person.

First Save - it looks good to me. One question to anyone who has opened a bond with them; is it possible to send a small tester amount so that one can be sure of correct sort code and account number details?

Not sure about that. I sent the full amount faster payment from my Nationwide Account and it appeared on First Save within 20 minutes. Not sure if that is normal timescale or just hit the right time

Yes I see. I just prefer to send a small amount for a first deposit, in case I typed an incorrect digit. I'd rather have the lesser worry of £50 going astray, than I would 20k!

I agree and I usually do that but this time didn't and it was OK. Should have remembered that earlier this week I sent funds to a Newcastle BS account with 2 of the numbers in the account number the wrong way round. The funds came back within about 12 hours

Ok. Now I have applied for FirstSaves 1 year bond. I've received their email confirmation and in that confirmation the following is stated:
    Making your deposit

Your initial deposit must be made within 10 working days of the date your account is opened. We can then accept multiple payments to fully fund your account over 10 calendar days from the initial date your account was funded.

Interesting as I never received an email like that
