It will certainly take me at least ten years to become fully 'debt-free' and both I, and my wife, will have to work very hard to attain that title, despite my 'bankruptcy' status.
I have never 'stuck two fingers up' at anyone who is working hard to deal with their debts, and I am unaware of any other regular 'bankruptcy' poster who has.
In fact the majority of us also post regularily on the DFW Board (which is, after all, our 'mother board') and we try to use our experiences to help others who are tackling debt by whatever means is appropriate to them.
In short, BH - Yes, I am proud to be dealing with my debts.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

I for one am very grateful for this discussion forum and I'm sure that applies to many others.
I can talk about BR to my family and husband and as much as they are supportive, they don't REALLY know how I feel about how things are.
I know that I can post on here and talk to people who have the exact same fears and feelings of despair as myself and that has been an absolute godsend.
Thanks to everyone who takes the time to advise and help cos that's why we are here, for help and to support each other

Graham I do sympathise with what you are saying but it is true to say that this part of the board is for offering support. For what it's worth, the very first 'rude' post that I noticed was someone implying that Lou was not taking responsibility. Now to someone not directly involved in becoming bankrupt that might sound as if they were being fairly mild. However, if you are involved then it changes to a very hurtful and highly emotive comment. It is not fair to expect people like you and I who are not emotionally involved in the decision to go bankrupt to expect others who are, to be as objective as we are.
I remember when my mother was first diagnosed as diabetic and I went off on a one woman fact finding mission. I asked a friend whose son (and I'm blushing even now to think I could be so cruel) had diabetes what the worse possible outcome could be. I remember even now the long silence and then her saying (very quietly) that they never ever think about that. Of course I meant it totally factually but to her it must have been awful.
I understand that you probably feel a bit battered and bruised (I know I would) and personally I think it's a shame that there isn't a part of the forum somewhere that allows full and frank discussion because I for one would have enjoyed that but this part of the forum is for support and so is not appropriate.

Neither does is justify you bringing users to this thread by linking to it in another thread in DT where it should have stayed so please take the responsibility for that.0

It seems once someone's posted that they've gone bankrupt (just using that as an example but it could apply to any situation really), it's because they want support and maybe some help with 'what now?'. Otherwise there's be no point in posting it.
It becomes a discussion by default, just like it would if you were chatting face to face. It also means that you're going to get help, even if that means there's something you don't want to hear. A bit like on the DFW board - everyone knows that if you have to cut your costs, Sky TV HAS to go. The person who needs help doesn't want to hear it, and it may be their only luxury. Some people say 'no, I'm keeping it no matter what' but check their posts a couple of weeks later - they will have realised that it's not a NEED, it's a WANT. They'll cancel Sky, and thank everyone for the suggestion. That'd be a DFW's lightbulb moment. I reckon those initially unwanted suggestions (whatever they are) on this board will eventually lead to a just-gone-bankrupt's lightbulb moment.Bulletproof0 -

You WILL come across people who will show their feelings towards you. It's ok being in a group who all give you internet hugs, but in the real world, people do have opinions and they are allowed to tell you them. I'd go as far as stating it's part of bankrupcy. This very board is called 'Bankrupcy and Living with it'. There is absolutely no point wrapping someone up in cotton wool on a forum when in the real world, living with it means dealing with the precussions.
Who do you think you're kidding Graham?
Your posts are deliberately provocative, and you're part of a sad little group who only seem to be capable of enjoyment at other people's expense.
For some people getting support in a virtual world like this gives them the strength to face their problems, and bigots in the real world.
If you really are running a successful business, which I very much doubt, then you must have a serious personality disorder to gain any sort of satisfaction from kicking people when they're down.

Well said Richard;) i couldnt agree more. I personally was with Lou on MSN as well as replying to posts last night, she was desperately upset and desperately wanted to get through what was a bad day for her and trying to offer those who are wanting to go bankrupt a bit of support with the BR process and her experience of it.:T This site is great!
