Phone restarts itself in my pocket
My phone quite often restarts when in my pocket, it's a Samsung M31.
It happens when I squat down and the power button gets pressed, I only notice it when I look at the phone later and find it half way through restarting, waiting for me to enter the password for the SIM.
I have the thing locked with face recognition, pattern or fingerprint but it can be turned off without any need for these - just a long press on the power button. I've not found any way to prevent this and am wondering if anyone has found a way round it? It's annoying because the phone won't work until it's fully restarted and if I don't realise the thing is restarting it's effectively still switched off until I spot it.

It could possibly be a fault with the power button itself. You can buy replacements quote cheaply on sites such as eBay and there are guides on how to change it on YouTube. It could be something stuck under the power button like grit/dirt causing it to easily depress and turn the device off. It shouldn’t really turn off just in your pocket otherwise. You could try an air jet cleaner (like for keyboards) or a putty cleaner to try and clean the button.Otherwise, if it’s under guarantee still, get in touch with the retailer and you may be able to get it repaired.Good luck!0

Rugged case that is wider than the power button perhaps?0

Could try setting then type side bar and change the power button to then activate Bixby the voice assistant then to turn phone off you'd get the notification tray down twice then power off would be top right here's a link that gives you a rough idea https://www.xda-developers.com/how-to-switch-off-restart-samsung-galaxy-z-flip-3/ and here's another https://www.xda-developers.com/remap-power-button-samsung-galaxy-s20-sideactions/ hope this helps0

Thanks for those responses
In the end I installed an app called Lock Screen Protector which, touch wood, seems to be performing the function I wanted.0
