    Many years ago, but he didn't actually take the reading himself.. Guy from Lowry Beck phoned and asked if my meter was easily accessible, and, if so, would I mind nipping out to give him a reading!
  • Never, but I have been asked to send reading and a picture of the meter showing a reading.
  • I haven't had mine read in about 7 years and I'd say in the last 15 years they have been read no more than 3 or 4 times over two different houses.

    My last meter readings were taken on the 15/7/15 that's when they were changed to smart meters.

    I had somebody read my gas meter in December, but they didn't want the electricity meter reading (and yes I have the same supplier for both) - I was then given a bill with their reading part way through the month for gas only, strange!

    Electricity - 1st of February 2022 by a data reader for British Gas. Before that years & years & years ... Suspect that BG are reading a lot of Neon Reef transferees.
    Gas - couldn't say. It's an external meter so can be accessed without me knowing & I haven't checked all my statements to check if/when last read by a data reader. Had a letter from EDF though suggesting that they are going to  - again presumably for Zog transferees "to ensure accurate billing".

    My Gas and Electricity meters have not been read by anyone in 7 years. I have someone from Lowry Beck coming on Tuesday to read my Solar Generation meter for the 2nd time in 8 years. Meant to be read every 2 years.

    BG had a Licence abrogation that granted them discretion to read domestic meters once every 5 years ( I have no idea why this was ever allowed): other suppliers were required to read meters once every 2 years. This Licence obligation was changed some years ago to one of obtaining a meter reading once every year from the customer. For smart meters, a reading has to be obtained at least once per month.  The £3 per meter saved was included in the Smart Meter Business Plan as a cost saving.

    21B.4 The licensee must take all reasonable steps to obtain a meter reading (including any meter reading transmitted electronically from a meter to the licensee or provided by the Customer and accepted by the licensee)

    (a) at least once per year from each of its Customers;
