Sorry if this has been answered, but all getting confusing .

My current energy company Bulb, not sure what to do, do we move or just stay still until April.

Will we be paying the highest new rates announced today as the company is in special administration until April?

The new cap announced today goes into effect on 1st April, so no change for you until then.

Update: Bulb sent another email today

Bill will go from £105.00 to £178.57.

But it's variable, will need to call Bulb does anyone know if they still offer fixed rates?

  • If they do, you wouldn't want to take them.

That is the DD not the bill of course, so do check that the estimate of your annual usage they are using is accurate.

... and no, they do not do fixed tariffs.

  • All you can reasonably do is perform you own calculations using the new daily rate, and the new unit rates, based on your actual consumption for the last 12 months. Work out what that will cost, subtract any credit balance (or add any debit balance), divide by 12 and offer to pay Bulb that each month.

We have adjusted our heating was coming on often, so our usage would be less going forward.

Bulb energy is just variable, prefer a fixed rate for certainty. Will be looking to move to a fixed rate for the next 2 years.

I used a comparison site and looks like will go with SO energy.

Not allowing me to switch online so will call them Monday morning.

Bear in mind that a fix only provides certainty if the energy supplier doesn't go out of business, as many have over the last year.

That is a good point. Will check the rate for the big 5 energy xompany.

We were with EDF before switching to bulb a few years back.

Wonder what other Bulb customers are doing.
  • After receiving the letter from Bulb yesterday, thought I'd look at what's on offer.

Bulb - 28.289p per kWh + 48.15p standing charge variable rate
    e-on next - 43.25p per kWh + 46.61p standing charge on 12 month fixed
Octopus - 37.67p per kWh + 24.86p standing charge on 12 month fixed
EDF - No quote. No tariff deals available
OVO - No quote. Not offering new deals.

So the cheapest remains Bulb but if there's another 50% increase in October then moving to Octopus will probably be better saving me around £120pa.

All assuming my calculations are correct of course..... always doubtful.

Unfortunately, all the suppliers have put up their fixes in the last two days since the Ukraine situation began unfolding.

I jumped on a switch to Octopus's Loyalty tariff from Shell on Thursday back when it was 33.46p per kWh, but that's jumped up to 36.75p now (South West region)
