If you satisfy the conditions then you should (it's your main residence, in Bands A-D etc). As I understand it , it's not actually a discount on your council tax so the fact that you are in arrears shouldn't make a difference - the council tax mechanism is simply the easiest way to distribute the money.

This is going to be an absolute nightmare for the councils to administer.  It's no wonder I still haven't got my council tax bill.  Just wondering which services they are going to have to cut next to pay for it, because you can bet your life the gov certainly wont be doing.  They could have done it through the DWP & NI Nos.  At least that way people with several properties would not get several "discounts".

The government are giving every council the money just because they had lidts of people and bands and were equipped to make the payment. The money isnt coming from councils budgets it had to be kept separate.
council tax bills due to land on mats from 16/17 march - i work alongside councils and do know that they are still carrying on with annual billing as normal

Not to pay for the £150 but to pay for administering it.

NINO's wouldn't work, because they identify individuals, and the payment is intended to be per household - hence the link to council tax. On your second point, the eligiblity is supposed to be only if the property is a main residence, but I'm unclear as to how this is determined - as someone who until recently split my time between two separate residences in tow separate local authorities, and was (legitimately) on the electoral roll in both, I don;t recall ever being sked by either council whether or not it was my main residence, and so I'm not sure if they hold such information and.or how they obtained it.

I just keep wondering how the government can keep spending so much.  It's all going to catch up with us at some point.

Well just remember they think they are going to get a lot more back from the loan than the £200 they are loaning.  Just wondering how much they can get back from houses repossessed by the banks.

The £200 energy loan is something different to that being discussed here, which is the £150 council tax rebate.

Should have made it clear that my comment was about the gov spending so much.
