Leaf issues!

It sounds daft, but it's not! The house I've just bought appears to have a driveway that funnels the wind. During the recent gales my car got buried under leaf litter from the woods opposite!

The council charge to remove garden waste. But this isn't garden waste! But it feels wrong to just sweep it back onto the street! What should I do?!!!

Regardless of what you want to call it, the leaves are garden waste.
Build yourself a compost bin at the bottom of the garden. Scoop up the leaves, and in six months or so, you will have a wonderful compost for the flower borders.

Leaf mould takes quite a bit longer than that - but it's really good for the soil.
  • That's a lot of leaves but an exceptional incident.

Clear them whilst they're still dry, soggy is no fun at all.

I would be concerned about the fire risk if the leaves are at that dry papery stage and you parked with a hot exhaust system after a long drive. It is going to be a nuisance but they are going to need clearing on a regular basis.
  • We have loads of leaves, we just put them in black bags and in to normal bin.
No way am I paying for removal, on principle
  • We had two dumpy bags full of leaves from the garden this autumn, luckily someone wanted them for their compost.

Any local social media groups to see if you can find someone willing to take a regular supply?

Assuming it belongs to you, you could take down the wall and let them blow somewhere else.

Have a very similar issue, our garden path became a very leafy area which although the dogs loved running through made it almost impassable.

After a couple of years of raking, bagging and going to the tip I got a cheap leaf shredder (VonHaus on Amazon). Not the most sturdy of things and you have to be careful when you get down to the gravel layer but it does the job and breaks the leaves down to a point where they'll easily fit in the green bin.

Also suspect that if you want to go down the composting route then shredding them will also speed up that process.

Leaves blow off trees in Autumn and Winter so are unlikely to be papery dry.  I agree with the suggestions to bag them up and put them in your normal bin.

Get a leaf blower and blow them into the street then report them to your councils street cleaning team.
