Graduation hat

Hi
Got my Masters graduation in 2 months time, 1 yr later!
They dont hire out the black graduation hats only sell them for £43! I think that is a lot to just wear for one photo.
Do people really need the hat?
Has anyone bought one from Amazon for £10 before and used it without anyone noticing a difference?
Just wondering what others have done as it seems like a expensive gimmick and waste of money to buy to pay £43 just for that day. They rent the robes out but not the hat.

Congratulations! I suspect they don't hire the hats out because of the numbers bent/damaged/squished/lost during the group 'hat throwing' photo! At the most recent Graduation ceremony I've been to virtually no-one had one (and the gowns could have been £9.99 off eBay 😳) In 'tolden days when I graduated, the official photographer had one which everyone wore, just for the photo.I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Competition Time, Site Feedback and Marriage, Relationships and Families boards.
