TTA not refunding for accommodation only

This is not looking good. Accommodation only sales are not packages, but TTA expressly claims they cover 100% of all payments, no matter what is being bought. If they were using an outside agency to process claims, I might give them the benefit of the doubt in that they are confused, but it seems this is coming from TTA itself. I can see why a card issuer might object to refunding if they are equally under the impression that all the money was supposed to be held in a trust account and the organisation invited people to claim refunds the day Alpha closed down.2

The Operations Team at TTA TravelYour booking with Alpha Holidays Ltd - 28th January 2022 Update
Dear Graham,
Thank you for submitting the claim for your accommodation-only booking with Alpha Holidays, trading as Alpharooms.com.
As you know, following the financial failure of Truly Travel and Alpha Holidays Ltd, TTA Travel implemented a claims process for all customers who were due to receive a refund from both respective companies.
Due to the high volume of information that we have been processing each day, we have not been able to respond to you in a timely manner – please accept our sincere apology for this delay.
Since the setup of the claims process in November 2021, our team has been verifying all the data submitted against the data received from Alpha Holidays Ltd and we are now contacting all customers who have submitted a claim in date-of-departure order, with booking dates ranging from March 2020 – December 2023.
We anticipate that in the next 6 weeks, we will have contacted all Alpha Holidays Ltd customers who have submitted a claim, with more information on the next steps.
Furthermore, to reassure you that we are following the process and we are carrying out the necessary validations on all the data submitted, between today and the next 6 weeks, we will continue to send you a weekly communication, to keep you updated on the progress that we are making.
We acknowledge the fact that this process has taken longer than initially communicated and your understanding and patience are very much appreciated.
Kind Regards

marystrat said:I appealed the refusal to refund and have had the following response just now Thank you for your reply.
Your accommodation-only contract was with Alpha Holidays Ltd and accommodation-only is not financially protected by the Package Travel Regulations.
As Alpha Holidays has gone into liquidation, we, at TTA Travel administer the claims process for bookings that did not go ahead – and this process was put in place on 29th October 2021, when Alpha Holidays stopped being a member of our association.
With regards to the guarantee mentioned on our website, that is an insurance that is triggered in case of fraud or dishonesty from the member, which does not apply in this instance.
Kindly let us know if you require further assistance with the chargeback process.
I have also just been refused my chargeback claim from Lloyds but have appealed this .
I have written to my MP , contacted the guardian money problems section and will be contact Surrey Trading standards Department on Monday . I am not hopeful but I am damned if I am going to take this lying down as I feel the TTA have mislead people into believing their money was safe when it was clearly not . In the meantime I am £845 out of pocket

It looks as though they may be having a change of heart which makes their denials only 3 days ago a mystery. BBC Rip off Britain covered both Teletext Holidays and Alpha Rooms in their latest series which finished a week ago, strangely neither TTA nor the liquidators would speak to them which wasn't a good sign, let's hope for better news soon.1

I do wonder if the claims process was outsourced by TTA to an organisation who had no clue, or even their bottom from their elbow. The whole TT/Alpha debacle with long refund delays to customers and seemingly incorrect information being given out does not show the Travel Trust Association is a good light.1

Completely agree..Why even ask me for indepth proof of payment after rejecting my claim made on 4/11/21, The booking was always accommodation only !.It was only after I submitted a secondary claim for the same booking with all the relevant payment information that they said I wasn't covered. 🤔🤔🤔0
