Hi.
Has anybody had problems with the above company?
In short, I have been reading my Gas meter incorrectly over the years, and have submitted my reads into the company to the level of 4741 units when in fact I had only used 803 units. This has resulted in approx £1500 over payment. I was told this would be credited back to me today, but have only had £500 ish. They are now trying to tell me, I still owe the other £1000.
We had a smart meter fitted Sept 2017 with zero units on, and now we have a total of 803 units, soooooo, we are paying approx 45p/unit which would work out a total payment of £361.35p. I have also spent many hours on the phone to them, which is a cost to me and my valuable time.
Anybody offer any help, please?

Can I double check your figures please? 45p/unit - you mean 4.5p/kWh
803 units on the meter is 8993 kWh
803 is very low
How have you managed to mix up the actual meter read of 803 and your figure of 4741 ?
INever pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
No, I've not mixed up the read.I was doing my read by pressing 6 and then the 'B' Red Button, which was giving me this incorrect read, only to learn you press '6' to get the correct read.0

OK. What model of smart meters do you have? Are they like these?redtillman said:No, I've not mixed up the read.I was doing my read by pressing 6 and then the 'B' Red Button, which was giving me this incorrect read, only to learn you press '6' to get the correct read.

That's great, thank you
Can I just check that you press the "9" button and then it says "Volume", then "00803"?That's a very small amount of gas for five years use. What do you use gas for - heating, cooking, something else? What sort of appliances do you have?N. Hampshire, he/him. Octopus Intelligent Go elec & Tracker gas / Vodafone BB / iD mobile. @redtillman You have the worst meter to read if it's any consolation.
I think I can see where your 45p/unit has come from. Have you taken the total cost £361.35 and divided by 803 ?
The 803 is not your consumption - in as much as that is not how it is directly charged. A modern gas meter reads in m3 - you have consumed 803 m3 but you are charged in kWh. A conversation factor of approx. 11.2 is applied (see your bill to see how this works) Applying this your consumption becomes 8994 kWh. Follow that through at say 3 p , add standing charges and 5% and your bottom line is that £361.35
Your practise of reading the meter (albeit incorrectly) when its not (usually) necessary to give them to the supplier because you have a Smart meter seems to have confused UW's systems.
In normal circumstances I would have said go to a comparison site and use that correct consumption. Then swop away from UW - that will force a refund.
However, times are not normal. Photo your meter to show that 803 reading and send to Meter Reading at UW.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0
