As I understand it, first impressions,
Dreamweaver is made by Adobe, or are there other manufacturers of Dreamweaver?
I looked at amazon.co.uk and found many variants.
Want to create a website and dreamweaver has been mentioned/ caught my attention a few times as it uses php.
I have created two websites using Microsoft Word but wish to extend my experience so I can tell folks that I am an experienced web designer of a kind.
Please do not bore me with templates available on the net - I like doing my thing off-line.
What is the latest Dreamweaver product available and what is the cheapest I can get if for?

If I fail to thank you individually, I am sorry. Your advice was appreciated but may not have been 100% the result I was after.

Adobe bought out Macromedia in 2005.
The latest version is CS3 which is around £300
or you can go the whole hog and get Cs3 Design Premium for around a 1K which I have but does pretty much eveything you may need include Creative Suite 3 Design Premium combines full new versions of Adobe InDesign CS3, Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended, Adobe Illustrator CS3, Adobe Flash CS3 Professional, Adobe Dreamweaver CS3, and Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional software with Adobe Bridge CS3, Adobe Version Cue CS3, Adobe Stock Photos, Adobe Device Central CS3, and Adobe Acrobat Connect.
Or to save money go down the dotnetnuke route.0 -
I use dreamweaver, excellent prog but you will need fireworks as well as a fairly good imaging prog - photoshop.
No idea how much they are now. I am using quite an old version of dreamweaver - must be 4-5 yrs old, but it is great.Nudge nudge, Wink wink, Say No More!0 -

Dreamweaver was made by Macromedia orginally
The latest version is called Dreamweaver CS3 and is published by Adobe

Personally I think it's a little over-rated and doesn't deal with CSS as well as it should do. I've never really found a good editor that'll help with CSS layouts.
MS Word for web design, what is the world coming to0 -

So I guess all those degrees in web design are a waste of time - all you really need to do is spend £300 on a piece of software and transplant your word documents?? People far too often think that the skills of design are installed with the software.
My advice to you would be to buy two big textbooks on web languages and web design and save yourself £250.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
As everyone has said, Dreamweaver is now part of the Adobe stable. You might be able to find cheaper versions in the CS2 suite (now superseded by CS3), or older versions such as when owned by Macromedia such as Dreamweaver MX 2004. Also if you are an education buyer, you can purchase a heavily discounted education only version. All info is on the Adobe website.
Adobe are still also running GoLive, which was their original web design program, although it's likely to be dropped at some stage now they own Dreamweaver. It has some advantages over Dreamweaver, and vice versa when comparing DM to GL.
Dreamweaver is probably one of the best packages out there (although I still like GoLive), but it is complex, the latest version is better than older ones, but no web design program is perfect, far from it. It helps to have a good understanding of HTML, and preferably CSS too to improve coding.
However I also wouldn't code sites from scratch just using a text editor either - I've been designing sites and working with HTML since the early 1990s, when it was incredibly basic, and all you had was text editors. It's great to understand and tweak the code, but to put a complex site design together just using code today is very outdated, IMO.
Never use anything like Word to create a website, it'll create very bad code, and look a mess!0 -
adobe is the newer and better version
macromedia is more understandable though you cant make the same types of site. if buying, definitley adobeCaesar si viveret, ad remum dareris(If Caesar were alive, you'd be chained to an oar):starmod: :staradmin :starmod:"It's good to be back"0 -
ive got cs3 premium. and its fantastic.
but dont be under any illusions, it wont/doesnt make me an expert in web design.
there are alternatives far cheaper. some are free.
graphic design is a real skill, and the best SW does help to cheat a bit.
i still find the best solution for me is to take a nice page off the web and change it to suit my requirements.Get some gorm.0 -
I remember the first time I looked at Dreamweaver 3, it scared the !*!+ out of me.
Takes a few years to get your head round it properly.
Then there's Photoshop to conquer...

Notepad++ and a good graphics editor is all you need0

I've found that Front Page is a hell of a lot easier to get used to than Dreamweaver.
Both are very expensive thoughIt's taken me years of experience to get this cynical0
