Want a smart meter

MattMattMattUK said:busysquirrel said:Hi there, I am currently with EDF on variable rate. I've recently had free solar panels installed (government grant due to being on low wage). I'd like to sell electricity back to the grid but was told by EDF that I can't do this until I have a smart meter, and EDF doesn't know when they'll input a smart meter.... I know the main message from Martin is that there's no point in switching at all at the moment, but does anyone have any idea how I can work out who to switch to, who would be able to provide me with a smart meter???0

I was with Zog for my gas at that point so no gas smart meter was ever installed. Last year my electric meter was enrolled into the DCC and was finally active again when I joined Pure Planet in July. The EDF engineer did say that there was more work because of my existing leccy meter and he had to install a comms hub as well. He set it up to work in smart mode and I have been able to view everything on the IHD from day 1 or 2. The meter was installed on the 4th Jan and I received info on my account on the 5th to say it was up and running. I can also confirm that the readings match the billing as I requested my first bill yesterday and the latest reading taken by them is correct. My eletricity move from Pure Planet to Shell also seems to be OK as I can see daily electricity usage from the 28th Jan but I had been supplying manual readings up until that point.I also have now got two separate IHDs.I have never used the Bright App so have no idea what that would show for me.
Been told to allow 10 days for the account to be updated. I've a feeling I will be waiting a while...
I have contacted EDF twice, and they asked to wait... When going online, no trace of the new meter. Old meter is still linked to the account and old manual readings...0 -

There are a raft of industry processes that the supplier has to undertake before it can pull data from your meter. Firstly, the National Database has to be updated to show the supplier change. Secondly, through The DCC, the new supplier has to send out bespoke security certificates to each of your meters. These are part of the GCHQ-level layered security applied to the smart meter system. Think of it like this; an Amazon man arrives at your door with a parcel; your front door is only programmed to open if it is expecting a parcel from Amazon. If not, it will remain shut.
FWiW, I have had SMETS2 meters for 2 1/2years. Ten days ago, My transfer of supply to a new supplier went through. I am still waiting for them to formally 'takeover' my meter so that My Account shows daily 30 minute usage.
Having said that, I can access all the information that I need via the App - BRIGHT. Try it.0
