Morning everyone
It was another wild windy night here last night - kept dropping off to sleep then waking up again with things crashing about outside. The already damaged shed is still standing thankfully but the contents of the blue bin are spread everywhere again. It's died down again this morning.
Phoned to try to get a doctors appointment as I was told to when I had a telephone appointment on Thursday - the earliest I can get one is tomorrow, and with the doctor who isn't usually much help! My breathing is still bad and I'm using my inhaler a lot - I would just like to be checked. I've taken another week off sick - hopefully by next week I'll be raring to go!
DD picked me up yesterday and took me down to their house for roast chicken tea - very nice it was too. Little one was funny - she knows I still feel ill and was very gentle and cuddly. She kept saying ' never mind granny I expect you'll be better soon and I'll come and stay at your house!'
Snoozer - I've never heard of Ziffitt - do they take fiction books as well? I have 3 big bookshelves in my room plus an overspill - they really need sorted.
Csarina - hope your decorating goes to plan this week.
Gers - well done with your theatre booking - it's lovely to have something to look forward to isn't it? It's ages since I've done anything like that - before lockdown I suppose.
Florenceem - well done that was a lot of money to make at your sale.
Well I'm going to get myself up and have a potter - downstairs could really do with a hoover and mop.
Hope everyone has a good day . Take care x12 -
Morning All
Lovely and bright this morning with a gentle breeze, very different from the last few days. It was scarily windy again last night but everything seems to be ok this morning.
Washing on the line, bedding in the WM and I've had a hoover round. All the windows are open for a blow through and the fire is lit. Managed without the heating yesterday but I was snuggled under a throw or two!
Stubborn headache still with me along with an upset tummy so I've still got this virus, opened a new box of lateral flows this morning to see if it was a dud lot but it's still showing negative.
Sorry a few of you are struggling with colds, hope you feel better soon.
Sounds good Gers, hope you enjoy it.
Right, off to do some work, will have to talk someone through a tricky job in a while, should be fun!
Take care. XX12 -
Morning all, we had some strong winds here too last night, probably the tail end of a storm but it's calmed down a bit now. No damage was done but my plastic recycling was strewn all over the back garden.
Can't see much being done here today as DGD is here (she has a cold and was LFT tested his morning ) and she's brought her homework with her which is to make a representation of a welsh landmark. She's chosen Snowdon so we're racking our brains as to how to do that ! Paper mache came to mind but as we have no newspaper we'll be searching through all the craft stash for ideas. Lunch will be an omelette and chips as requested by her, but I'll have fish as I'm not fussed on omelette, then we'll probably have salad wraps for tea.
I may not be on tomorrow as I have an early morning appointment at the dentist to deal with my problem tooth, wish me luck !
Take care all and hugs to anyone in need
nan xx
PS thanks Nels for the offer, you may regret that 😂Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently13 -
Good morning everyone ,well although very breezy, the south seems to have been very lucky in not having too much damage ,our friends in the north have suffered a lot more sadly.
I hope everyone is safe and well and dry at least. My grandson said it was -11c in New York yesterday, I don't think I would like to live there ,bad enough when the tempretures drop in the UK below freezing. I don't like the winter at all My favourite time is the spring when things start to brighten up, and the bulbs start pushing their way through the earth.
I shall phone Val this morning and have a good natter with her ,hopefully she's remembered to charge her phone up in the ward.
I have my second shop of January to do this morning, I have been putting it off, and using up what I have already .My freezer is definitely getting more wriggle room at last so I won't be buying anything frozen only basic stuff I am running short of.
Its certainly been an experience not shopping unless for essentials, and adapting what I have in already to make meals and use up odds and ends, and I found it really good fun actually, and digging out old recipes from my Misers Online cookbook helpedThose of you who remember it
But its great to see I actually will have cash left over this month to roll over to February's budget which is good. I have cut things right back and so far have only spent about £25 odd on essential food stuff I was surprised at how much stuff was in my cupboards and freezer that I had forgotten about. I think I will only need about £24 odd for this mornings essentials so definitely a surplus bit to go into February's pot
Had a nice evening at DDs last night and our dinner was Aldi's silverside of beef, and my son-in-law cooked it slowly and it was delicious. DD said she was surprised at how nice the beef was as she hadn't bought beef from there before . I must admit it was melt in the mouth stuff and there was quite enough left over for them to have a cottage pie with today.
Right time to get a move on the sun is shining here this morning so I may have a quick look down the garden and see if the daffodils are pushing through yet
Have a good day chums what ever you are doing keep safe and warm if possible

Morning all. It's not too bad here and the storm didn't blow anything essential down, or inessential really, we did have a lot lighter I think than those of you up north. Glad it wasn't worse for you all. Yesterday we had friends round for a takeaway and there's some of that left for either supper or dinner, or whatever you call those meals, and Ihave some fajita soup left so I'll have that for one of them. OH has gone to bed, he went out with a friend who does trucking last night so I won't see him for the rest of the day. My plans involve hoovering, surprising how much stuff comes out of the carpets on one day! I'm looking forward to wood or tile floors, carpet and floorboard isn't conducive to cleanliness here. I also went online last night and looked for a different flea treatment and have ordered something else as clearly, the stuff I have been using and trying is not working. This one has rave reviews so fingers crossed.Take care of yourselves today after yesterdays shennanigans and just generally anyway...Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi12

Bright sunny day today but cold and still windy. DH is pottering about, having a couple of days off before they start on a new extension. He was glad to leave the last job on Friday, it took far too long to complete due to supply issues & various tradesmen having to be off with covid . I'll just have to type up the final bill now.We too had slow cooked beef last night. I was so glad I prepped everything before we went to watch DGDs football game, it was an away match a good few miles away. Worth the trip as she won the parents player of the week trophy which boosted her confidence no end, and DGS burnt off some energy playing on the sidelines with some other boysI've got some lamb chops out of the freezer, they were from the butchers so should be good.DS not keen so a burger for him- must remember to take the barm cakes out too.Hugs to all in need x:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. Camelot - you're meant to be resting! There seems to be an awful lot of housework going on.DP1 - I caught up on two episodes of Geordie Hospital yesterday. The RVI has changed hugely since my time in Newcastle, has the beautiful peacock entrance been bulldozed? Mind you, it did need a renovation.TA - glad that your DGD enjoyed their favourite meal, it always brings back memories of my own fav which was a breaded pork chop in the days when it came with a little bit of kidney attached. Can't get that these days.Taff - hope that you're feeling better, no more weird turns.I've been out in the garden to put things to right and burn the papers which I scanned yesterday. What a delight to see wee snowdrops peeking out. Then I noticed many more in the edge of the hedge on the track at the front, they do cheer me up with a promise of spring and light. Bird feeders filled up too. Yesterday was the Big Garden Bird Watch, luckily it wasn't Saturday, so recorded my robin, blackbirds, tits, goldfinches, spuggies etc. I missed the last couple of years so it was lovely to do it again. My eyebrows are a direct descendant of Denis Healey, it can be very distressing as they keep on growing like mad, I've had to do some taming of them this morning. Not fun.The other day I bought a wee tetra pack of oat single cream for my coffee, it's horrid! There's a funny smell and really changes the taste of the drink. I'm not even sure that I can finish it, don't shout at me MSE. I was finishing off an audio book of short stories by Mick Herron, only one featuring Jackson Lamb but all really interesting. Now I have to get going.13

Gers said:After watching James McAvoy on the Graham Norton show the other day I booked tickets for his Cyrano which is coming to Glasgow in March. It's a real indulgence! I decided to go to a matinee performance so I can drive home afterwards in daylight / dusk. It's so good to look forward to. 😀Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage - Anais Nin12

Morning all. We had some rain last night and, as expected, the wind got up again but nowhere near as bad as Saturday. So sorry for those poor people who are without electricity (again). Beautiful sunset yesterday, I watched the clouds turn from a golden orange-pink to red to purple. Sunny today, slight breeze and chilly.
Yesterday's "pottering" turned into general slothfulness so not much done beyond the necessary. I even had a nap in the afternoon but still slept well last night (sorry to those who struggle with sleep) and feel more energised today. Oh, I did manage to make some veg soup to use up a jug of chicken stock and veg bits from the fridge, so that's a couple of lunches sorted.
Dinner tonight is gammon (from the freezer), chips and stuffed pepper. I've got the SC out and am doing a corned beef hash for tomorrow. Also have a head of celery to chop/freeze.
Scarlet - Had to laugh at your middle-of-the-night thoughts, you're right, they never seem as good in the cold light of day.
snoozer - I'm with you on the jars in the fridge, we always seem to have lots of those.
Jackie - pleased to hear Val's op has gone well.
Virtual hugs to anyone who needs one and get well wishes to the poorlies.Be kind to others and to yourself too.12 -

Great to hear - thanks! I saw the official trailerhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJOVgVgy0T4 which really grabbed my attention. I see it's being released as a cinema film in February but I really want to go back to a theatre again, it's been a long time!
