Does a Dual Sim phone need a special Network Unlock Code?

Hi Everyone,

I've purchased a second hand network locked dual sim phone (Samsung Galaxy S10) from a well known second hand store chain.

I usually purchase a network unlock code from eBay as these can be as cheap as 99p. I have had no issues in the past with using these on single sim phones.

This is my first dual sim phone howevefr and I am not sure whether it needs a special NUC to unlock both sim slots as compared to a single sim phone.

Normal unlock codes can be had for as little as 99p on Ebay, however a seller is selling codes listed specifically for dual sim phones for just over 10 times this price. I'm not sure whether this implies that dual sim phones need a special NUC or simply that the seller is trying it on  :D. I notice that they only require the first IMEI to provide the code.

Is anyone on the forum able to clarify? Can I acheive the desired result of unlocking both sim slots by simply purchasing a normal NUC code based on the first IMEI?

Advice appreciated.

  • if it dual sim it will be unlocked

    thats the idea
  • I guess in the absence of any other advice your best bet is to blow 99p and see if it works. I'd be interested in the result.

Does trying too many invalid NUC codes do something fatal to the phone or am I thinking of something else?

An android phone is only locked to a network that provided it, but dual SIM handsets are rarely or never supplied by a network. So are you sure it's locked? To which network?

Many phones that are dual sim will only support a 2G network on the second SIM.  Which automatically rules out 3 and those that piggyback on them.

On the other hand my last 3 Sonys & 1 Lenovo (most bought via network) all support 4G on either/both sim.
