The thing we both dislike about the change is that the packaging now isn't recyclable at all which seems rather counter productive to the reducing and recycling plastic message being touted out.I am a vegan woman. My OH is a lovely omni guy8 -

Locally Aldi have a big green bin, Co-op have a teeny dustbin thingie and then the big stores have the facilities with large wire container.
This means all of it can be recycled rather than just the tray, or if very unlucky with a black tray... not at all!Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

euronorris said:Yes, I also don't get this. The other packaging was like 95% recyclable and the new packaging isn't recyclable at all. Doesn't make sense to me.

All of the new packaging going to landfill would still be less waste than 2/3 of the old packaging.
Plus, as Katiehound explained, the new one is recyclable in most supermarkets (including Sainsbury's).6 -
On the subject of recycling, it's a very complex problem with no one size fits all. I'm quite happy to do so but am thwarted by the communal bins we have. Because some residents put stuff in the wrong bins, all our refuse goes into the same wagon (to eliminate cross contamination). And our council doesn't do a glass recycling service, you have to take it yourself to a bottle bank. There isn't one within walking distance from where we are, we don't have a car and I'm not making a special bus journey to get there. However, I do take my soft plastics to the local Co-op, re-use or re-purpose what I can and take stuff to the CS so I'm trying to do my bit.
Chicken, bacon & mushrooms pasties have been made, as have jam tarts. For some reason, there's 11 not the usual 12, so the odd one will be a "sampler".
Had a text this morning from my credit card provider to remind me there's a payment due by the end of this week - yes, I know and will be paying it tomorrow. It's not something they've done before so it's set me wondering if they're finding customers are missing payments due to the current financial crisis. Just a thought.Be kind to others and to yourself too.6 -
@YorksLass do any of your charity shops take glass jars and bottles?A couple of the ones near me have crafting sections and they sell them thereI removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.6

I've just cut & pasted this from a Guardian article- nothing on the Sainsbury's website about recycling just about reduction in the plastic\!
Some shoppers said the new packaging was not as easily recycled as the previous version. Because they are made from “flexible plastic” the packs are not accepted in most councils’ kerbside bins and must be taken to specialist collection points in stores including Sainsbury’s.
which is what I understood!Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!
