I'm trying to find info on the numbers that's sometimes printed on plastic but it's not easy.
Checking my council's website I've been recycling the wrong things in the wrong bin for yonks. Very few of things with the logo on them are taken by my council, it doesn't matter what logo the manufacturers put on an item, council's decide what to recycle or not. Biggest surprise so far is what goes in my brown (garden/food waste) bin. The compostable bags do not break down in the "In Vessel Composting Process" and are not accepted in the brown bin system. So the bags the council give out for food waste in the brown kitchen caddy which has printed on them to dispose of them in the brown bin is not acceptable to go in the brown bin, according to the council website.
I'm sorry I started this now
Check your council's website people :rolleyes:I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.10 -
I wash all wet food recyclables at the end of washing up - soft plastics & cat food pouches go into an old metal bin that sits under my worktop next to the waste & collected recycling bins. When that's full they move into whatever large bag is collecting them til I next go to Tesco. Plastic food trays / fruit punnets are collected & go to the tip once a month as "hard plastics". All my collected recycling goes into the blue bin, and any I save for self-disposal is stored in my outside bin cupboard.2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

When wheelie bins were introduced there was a spate of injuries from little old ladies falling in head first as they tried to clean the deeper bins.
I know the feeling now as I try to reach the items DH has dropped into the bottom of the wrong bin.
I think it should be one of the tests for dementia as he is losing the ability to sort the recycling. The bins have to be in the right order too, any more bins and we will have to give up trying.
At least our waste goes to the local incinerator power station. We need a lot more of those instead of landfill.8 -

I wash out - not just rinse - all my bottles, tins and plastic containers. I do this in the washing up liquid after I've finished washing the pots. We don't have a dishwasher. So all my recycling is very clean.
I'm not - definitely not - saving up packaging that has contained food to take back to a supermarket in a week's time.
To the people who 'rinse' out the packaging:
where do you keep this until you're ready to dispose of it?8 -
My 'strong objection' is that I don't want any packaging that may have contained stuff like raw meat or raw fish hanging about my kitchen until I next go to the supermarket.
My kitchen.

We keep food remains, sardine tins etc in the top drawer of the freezer as I don’t want any smells and it all goes into a black bag , then once a week the black one and the yellow one for the recycling stuff go into big communal bins down the road which are emptied once a week. The bin people also run the tip centers and are very knowledgeable. We get a magazine every so often with advice, ideas and updated information. They say not to expend extra water and soap to clean tins - just use the washing up water after the dishes, Most stuff is recycled here in the yellow bag.8

Forgot to add that if we in the village put less into the black landfill bags we get money back - last year each household got 9 euros- well, every little helps and it does encourage us to recycle as mush as we can.8
