I got tonsillitis almost every month for several years in my teens, and it wasn't until Uni when it was becoming quite debilitating being ill so much that they decided they needed to come out. Unfortunately the referral and hospital were in my Uni town, so an absolute hassle to get home to my parents to recuperate when feeling awful.Live the good life where you have been planted.

My mother apparently had trouble with her tonsils being removed, so she wouldn't let them remove mine. After missing a couple of months of college every year and having to totally give up voice lessons, I finally had them removed in my senior year in college when I turned 21 and could give my own permission. I was between semesters, but had the same teachers for both semesters and they helped me take stuff home for the first week of the next semester that I was going to miss. I do think it is harder to have it done when you are older.7

I was supposed to have my tonsils removed in the late 50's but we moved before they could do it and they never caught up with with me. (Dad in the RAF) I still get sore throats a lot but ignore them and they go away. My dd used to get quinsy and a tonsil removal was never suggested. iseem to remember she was just given antibiotics.

I had my tonsils out in the late fifties, aged seven. There were no beds in the children's ward so they put me in an adult mixed sex ward. No ice cream for me, just a rubber mat over the pillow and an enamel bowl to throw up in.4

I was five when they took my tonsils out, and when I woke up, I was really annoyed, because they had put me in a small bed with all the sides going up. I slept in a big bed at home! I was a big girl and could be trusted to stay in bed!

It snowed overnight (again) and into this morning so we've had a real dump of it. Not the possible 40 cm we could have had, more like 20 cm, but that's quite enough, thank you. The gritter came round again this morning so at least the road through the estate is clear. Local schools are closed and an army of snowmen has appeared.
Beautiful sunshine and blue skies this afternoon so it's starting to thaw but, according to the Met Office, tonight's low could be -10 degrees (and feeling like -13) so tomorrow we'll have ice to contend with. Grrr. Tomorrow should be sunny intervals until late afternoon then sleet overnight. Glad I don't have to go out anywhere.
Cherry pie, chocolate butterfly buns and cheese straws made as planned but no left over cabbage so bubble & squeak cakes are off the menu.Never mind, there's potato cakes and hash browns in the freezer instead. Next week's meal plan is my next "To Do" and then a grocery order for Tuesday delivery - hopefully the white stuff will have disappeared by then!
The slippers I ordered for DH are at the distribution depot but waiting for collection by the courier and I've had a message to say the bad weather means there'll be a delay in delivery. There's no hurry so that's OK - it's not as if I'm going anywhere and need to change plans.
Be kind to others and to yourself too.8 -
No buses round here all day (I think they may have just restarted) so we've not gone out to the pub.
I've done a liver, bacon & tomato casserole for tonight and 3.5 portions of mach, 2.5 of which will go in the freezer.6 -
Cold here today + windy and wet.

Frugalista said:Just wanted to say Thank You to whoever posted about Freeway Max coke being the same as Pepsi Max. Have now tried it and it will save quite a lot in my housekeeping. Thank You!I do have a cola addiction, luckily the sugar free versions, never liked full fat ones as I call them. And yes my teeth are nearly non existent and those that I do have are extremely sensitive . My dentist despairs of me and keeps on at me to drink through a straw if I have to consume pop. However I also drink it as my mixer of choice with whisky and thats not going to be drunk through a straw lolBack from our budget break in Newcastle. Oh WOW is all I can say, everything was soooooo cheap ( well for me as NI prices are harsh ) You could easily get a two course meal for £12, in decent places, here that wouldn't cover a fish supper take out!!!We usually found a local proper cafe and took a full fry around 10 am ( £5 with tea or coffee ) which lasted us till late in the evening. We did "splurge " for an Indian meal on night - £35 for the two of us - absolute bargain, one night we ate in Spoons - 3 plates between the two of us -£15 and the first night we were so tired that we both fell asleep instead of getting a shower and heading out, so made do with a packet of crisps and half a packet of biscuitsAlthough we didnt have a luggage allowance , just a small cabin bag each , I did hit the Chinese supermarkets and managed to get a few things we cant get here - fermented black beans in particularCame back to find my £75 card from Plusnet arrived to hit Lidls and home bargains to stock up on stuff Ive not been buying. Unfortunately the wonderful bacon in HB had gone up £1 but in Lidls I got 4 packs of belly pork for 90p each and two packs of tiger prawns for the same - so its home made Chinese tonight - braised belly pork in black beans and sweet and sour prawns and egg fried rice. Ive got a few peppers in the fridge going over so they will be ideal to use. Mind I made a shopper give me a funny look when I audibly gasped at the price sunflower oil has got since the last time I bought - at £1.87 it was dearer then petrol !!! Im sure it was only (only she says ) £1.20 last time. Also lifted a pack of Macrons for 20p. Never had them before but thought Id give them a try as a treat - well Id not pay full price for them thats for sure. Also lifted a gift wrapped box of Belgian chocolates on offer for £4.99 , down from £8.99 - put away for mum for mothers day. Lidls chocolate is very good , esp the Belgium stuff, good quality at dairy box prices - so I thorough recommend themMr L had to get a new phone this week. His volume had gone, the off button had stopped working and then the whole thing when tits up and he couldn't get into it at all. Nice man that he is gifted me the new one and took mine so I needed to buy new cover and screen protector ( different size phone ). Very impressed with the new ones camera. I try to hold onto my phones as long as possible, only changing when they stop updating that model. Keeping them protected with covers and screens is a must, particularly a good shock absorbing cover. Unfortunately because I do hang onto them for so long they are worthless for trade in so Ive a few pretty bricks sat in drawersSo its been a good week for me all told. Unfortunately my friend who I was sitting with died when we were heading to the airport Saturday so I missed his funeral. However I had been with him near daily for the weeks before. And helping the other family members by dog walking for them, getting the shopping in, making meals etc. So my time is now my own again, time to start job hunting and getting some money coming in. Cant live on fresh air and high hopes foreverOnwards and upwards12
