It's getting tough out there. Feeling the pinch?

Have used up a load of veg which was in the fridge, plus some cooked chickpeas and made a vat of vegetable curry. I've left 2 portions our for our dinner tomorrow night and 4 portions have gone into the freezer for another time.
Made spag bol using 250g of mince for dinner tonight and there are 2 smaller portions which are cooling ready to go into the freezer. These will be used as a jacket potato topping later this month.
Agree that YS foods aren't being reduced very much and to be honest if it's only being reduced by about 20p or something I'd rather pay that and have fresher food!

I keep telling Mr F that the bills will be higher but not sure I am getting through to him. I wait anxiously for the gas one.Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

YorksLass said:Florenceem said:The energy bill that arrived was a statement of how much our electric was in 2022 and the estimate for 2023 - a £3.42 difference so I am very confused - how can that be if prices have increased so much? Not had the gas details yet.
This week we're due a SM delivery (based on one a fortnight) but, looking at what we have in, I'm in a mind to not bother. There's nothing especially urgent other than fresh milk and some salad stuff so, if I get that locally, I'll not be spending very much since I'll be limited by what I can carry. That will be a good start to the New Year.Like many others, my aim is to spend as little as possible this month and to use up what we have.
Today I've cancelled my annual Ancestry subscription before it auto renews at the end of the week, a saving of £119. Although I find family research interesting and absorbing, I also enjoy other pastimes and have had to prioritise in order to stay within budget. If they come up with a special offer that fits my budget better, then I might reconsider.
I've also decanted what's left of a refill bottle of general purpose cleaner into its spray bottle so that's another item crossed off the shopping list. And I think the washing up liquid will just about last for the rest of the month.Only a few pennies saved but it all adds up.

my gas and electric was billed as well I was expecting a high bill as keep my heating on 24/7 temperature 18-20 (tortoise needs to be warm) and son has a habit of keeping windows open in his bedroom and we three are always at home now but came in and 250pm covered it all. I am not convinced about adjusting heat all day and just keep it on so doesn't have to heat up after cooling down. Sorry to hear about toothache I had to wait a year to get a tooth extracted by hospital and i now clean and floss twice daily to avoid this plus drink lots of milk. When I had toothache I found soups and crackers were easy to make and batch up. I like using ice cube trays to freeze cubes of cream to add to soup to make creamier21k savings no debt10

Energy bill - mine is 87p and I've only just got up! No heating, that's just standing charge, fridge and freezer so nearly £1 inc. VAT for almost nothing. Crikey. Summer 2021 was 50p a day all-in!Now a gainfully employed bassist again - WooHoo!9

2 of us at home all day & no complaints here, £34 electric usage + £14 sc ( on EPG ) for Dec, no gas/ oil or solar for us but used slightly less free wood for heating than last year. With the £67 from the Gov't it's another free month & £19 credited to our whole amount variable DD account.8
