-taff said:My two biggest pans will easily do that and more but they are usually reserved for cooking tomatoes in September and recently got used to make a massive batch of mulled cider.
My largest slow cooker is 6.5 litres and my stew pan probably twice as big.
I'm thinking about the size of my portions.6 -
The smaller one is ten litres, the bigger one, no idea, it's not written on it and I don't fancy filling it from the jug to find out, but probably 14 give or take...I hope you know I've just gone into the lean to which is below freezing to find that out
but at least I know now. I made the mulled cider in the smaller one and filled it right up...it was lovely though...and I did mean easily do 24 portions of soup, not 240 portions of curry!!

@London_1 how lovely, that story reminds me of the children’s book Little House in the Big Woods, and Laura falling asleep on the trundle bed next to her sister every night listening to her parents chatting and her Pa playing the fiddle, hearing the wind and rain outside but feeling cosy and warm and safe. I loved this book as a child and my DS (just 7) really enjoyed it when I read it to him recently. I also incidentally thought it was quite a good OS primer, he was actually really fascinated by all the detail of how they made the smoked meat and cheeses and all their food through the year!Part time working mum | Married in 2014 | DS born 2015 & DD born 2018

I also made a list of dinners and pudding we like so it's easy to think what to have next day. Saved me from cooking the same old meals every day - also on the back of the cupboard (since about 1985 so I should update it really)Love living in a village in the country side12 -
Can you not just put the pan on the scales and press "zero"? Assuming there is one, of course! Now a gainfully employed bassist again - WooHoo!10

I have a Salter bowl scale where you can move the setting to zero but if you put a heavy container on them you have reached the maximum weight with the item alone never mind any contents!
If possible I still use measures like Tablespoons- but then there's only me!Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

How much soup per portion (compared to a 400gm tin)?Well, normal people might eat a whole tin or a half a tin, but I am greedy so I always have seconds, especially when it's homemade, so... grams are mostly equivalent to ml [for water/liquid] , so the smaller one being ten litres would be the equivalent of 10,000ml, which is 25 portions...Not that I make soup in there, but having made the mulled cider, I can say I made [and helped drink] 21 pints of it.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi7 -

A large tin of soup is 400 grams - I'm not sure how litres and kgs/grams equate.
My portions were similar to a 400gm tin, based on how it filled our soup bowls.
So I should have had just over 16 portions of soup but only had 9, just over half the yield.
The slow cooker wasn't full to the brim but definitely way over half full.
I'm still confused.
