Longwalker said:Have no option but to drive in itFacebook memories show snow is normal from the first week of December onwards hereActually I dont mind driving on snow, its the solid ice we have had these past few mornings that stress me. Even more so the ice thats there on the way home again. Ive never had a slide going in to work, but a couple coming home - luckily not serious, worse was having to sail on past my house as no way was the car going to stopI could have murdered Zoe Ball the other morning, I had spent 15 mins trying to get the car ice free ( doors completely frozen shut ) and was crawling down the road, and she was blathering on about how she would love to see snow and how lucky those that had it were !!!!!It was so cold in work yesterday, our toilet froze. Long queue by time it finally became operationalBack to prices, a loaf of hovis was 1.40 at the weekend (lidl) and I thought sod that so looked at their other options 38p or 78p, I went for the 78p loaf. Its ok but doesn't make nice toast - turns brittle. But 62p cheaper its going to have to do. Anyone try the 38p loaf?Totally Debt Free & Mortgage Free Semi retired and happy8

I hate snow too. It was one reason why I was so keen to move away from the Peak District . Even with walking boots and ice grippers I' d be edging my way down icy pavements holding onto to walls and fences.
No snow here yet.8 -
It was surprisingly snowy here in London, a few inches which of course meant my local council was useless. They supposedly grit the roads around schools (which should include ours but didn't) however, they also don't bother doing the footpath so everyone was sliding around. We had a funeral to attend yesterday and I ended up wearing black walking shoes as my knees are not great. I also dug out my Yak Trax grips to slip over the shoes and they gave me much more confidence when walking. I won't go back out until this has all disappeared as if I fall I'd be a mess (dodgy shoulders and dodgy knees) so I'll stay at home. We've plenty of food so don't need to go anywhere. DP couldn't get the car out this morning as the melted slush has iced up overnight, so he's working from home today.

I make my own bread but always have a Sainsbury's cheapy loaf (currently 39p for both white or wholemeal) in the freezer for toast. Last time I received a Warburtons as a sub but it wasn't as nice.
Today's delivery has one oos (not a disaster), 2 boxes of x 6 eggs instead of 1 box of x 12 eggs (30p dearer but will get a sub refund for that) and one short-dated item - wholemeal breakfast muffins. They're destined for the freezer so it doesn't matter. Also I had wanted a packet of the SM's own dark chocolate digestives (65p) but they were oos and their suggested alternative of a branded packet at £1.25 (promotional price, at that) didn't appeal so it didn't go on the order.
No snow here (not that I want any) but it's frosty, blooming freezing and the forecast is hovering around zero degrees during the day, dipping down overnight to minus figures, for the rest of the week. The summer's heatwave seems a distant memory!Be kind to others and to yourself too.9 -
Is anyone wearing a hat indoors to keep warm? I am and although it is keeping me warm, I can’t stop laughing about it!!12

I saw a very sad sight yesterday. Was driving to a friends and noticed an elderly lady on the pavement surrounded by a few people, she had sleeping bags all around her and a hat on, I stopped and asked if I could help, she had fallen a couple of hours before and was waiting for an ambulance, I said I was happy to take her to A&E but she couldn't be moved. When I went back past an hour and a half later the ambulance was just arriving. Poor thing, hope she is ok."You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "15

Morning all - no hat indoors here thank goodness, although I could have done with it in the office yesterday - the heating took all day to not get to the desired temperature. It's better today as Mr Boss left the thermostat set at 16 overnight. It's crept to 19 degrees so far - hopefully it'll carry on rising. I must remember to turn it down before I leave tonight though as I'll be last out.
Still very snowy at home - roads were treacherous thanks to Essex CC's not bothering to grit policy. London end was better with some slippy areas on the pavements - my 1.3 miles from car > office was OK as long as I concentrated on walking confidently and looking well ahead not down. Amazing how that can affect your balance! Going to walk back and retrieve the car at lunch as I can park in the road behind the office from 2pm and that will beat dealing with icy pavements in the dark later.
Our electricity use hit a shade under £5 for the day yesterday including the SC - today might end up higher as I turned both heaters up a fraction last night as the front room temperature had dipped a little when we got home. The dehumidifier is running for a few hours today as well as we ran a load of washing through last night, and I've also extended the heated towel rail timing right to the end of the off-peak period - it's only 10 minutes but it all helps, and that 10 minutes will cost pretty much nothing. (Also means that it will still be on, rather than cooling at the time we are both in there for showers.)🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡
