Tea, coffee, stuffing, suet, drinking chocolate/ coco powder, dried potatoes, yeast, soda bicarb are some of the other things I could think of to stock up on.£71.93/ £180.005

joedenise what an excellent idea re the coconut milk as its not that cheap to buy and I don't use a whole tin at a time either, and passata in muffin tins
I have some of those little glass dishes that you get with GU deserts I was thinking I could freeze small amounts in them ,then bag up once frozen. Or even the silicone egg poaching gadgets as they will peel off easier
Also well done reminding me re the stuffing mix, I'm listing bit on a paper pad so by next week when I go to coffee morning I will run off some copies for the other ladies
Cheers

I use silicon because it's so much easier to get the blocks out once frozen. I've tried other things but just doesn't work as well. Another thing which might work would be to freeze portions in the little snack bags which the SM sell but of course that would be more expensive and not very MSE!

Another thing I've thought of, antiseptic cream, pain killers and my case spare inhalers [ and nettle tea], so medication you need, after all if it's a bad winter you don't want to go out for just one thing if you can wait a few days and combine a few runs into one day.£71.93/ £180.007

I would be putting ham stock cubes on the list. Plus tinned potatoes which make fabulous Spanish omelette. Theres also quite a few long life pouches of things like quinoa and lentils, available in aldi and are good as a base to a vegetarian cottage pie or stuffing veg. Gives a bit of variety and are less than half the price of branded cheffy equivalents.7

May I add my two penny worth? I've stocked up on nut roast mixes. It makes a nice roast and can also be used in sandwiches or with chips. I buy the Artisan Grains ones when they are on offer. It's more cost effective for me to do that than faff about buying all the ingredients to make one. Also, when Jamie Oliver microwave things are on offer (eg curried chickpeas) I buy them as a quick and easy dinner with rice or naan bread. Garlic butter is handy. Pickles, chutneys, jams, peanut butter and Marmite. I also have a stock of hot chocolate, and Horlics type of things for a bedtime drink or just as a change from tea or coffee. The other tinned stuff that I have, apart from the usual, is some veggie Chile, bolognais, veggie sausages and beans, mac cheese all of which can be stretched with pasta, rice, bread or extra vegetables. To cheer up my salads, various dressings and, would you believe, some vegan "bacon" crumbles? Various seeds and nuts, dried fruits are great for chucking onto cereal or adding to salads. Falafel and veggie sausage/burger mixes are good too. For those of you with printers, how about paper and ink cartridges? I'm also checking my craft supplies, books, cross word puzzle books and anything that will keep me busy. Sorry, that's a long two penny worth.11

I follow an economist on You Tube. He's been telling his subscribers for about 2 years now to prepare for inflation, followed by a severe recession. I wouldn't be popular if I linked to him because his world view isn't mainstream, but he's British, unlike most posters there. One of his mini series a year or so ago was about the Depression years and some of the parallels with today are quite striking. So, despite his non-conventional views, he's predicted the current situation accurately and those following his advice should have been putting aside a little extra for some time and adjusting their savings or investments too, if they have any.My OH and I have most of the things on your lists, but there are few we hadn't thought of, like bicarbonate of soda; a really bad omission.I'd say don't forget your pets. We buy quality dry cat food in bulk, as that's quite economical, but it's hard to put an expiry date on the brand we have. I know anything with oils in it goes rancid eventually, so I'd guess at a year at least for a hermetically sealed product stored in a cool, dark place. Chicken food isn't sealed to the air, but it's dated. We go over the date by about 2-3 months in 'normal' times and now, because of price increases, we're extending that. Chickens don't appear to have noticed yet!9

I would be interested in seeing those YouTube videos. I’m always interested in the history of the interwar years. I understand if you don’t want to post a link if his, shall we say, contrarian, views on current events are controversial but if you could give his name I can Google itIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!6
