Me… I burnt myself at school during home economics/cooking. I was 16 and it was going to be graded as part of my coursework, so i kept quiet and did my washing up in freezing cold water!!
had been using the oven at school for three years… just had a panic moment and didn’t think.
During the afternoon rinsed it regularly in cold water every time I passed the loos. So I am grateful my parents had already taught me what to do when you burn yourself.
I had also previously poured coffee from the percolator (still bubbling) over my hand when pouring myself a coffee at home… and had various walking into doors, door handles, lamp post moments too.I would add that I continue to burn or steam or accidentally cut myself on a fairly regular basis and that age isn’t necessarily going to be a prevention of that!!
it’s far better to teach kids what to do if or when it happens to them!working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?9 -

We have been Blessed today that there was some pre loved uniform we can have for when we become soldiers at the Salvation Army this month. We are still needing to buy items which will cost £300+ plus I need to get some suitable shoes.Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

Talking of cooking in schools. That’s reminded me when my younger sister was doing cooking she burnt her arm just by her elbow on the oven. I think they were making bread. It was a fairly big burn around the size of a £2 coin but not deep or weeping. It scabbed over. Anyways a few days later her face broke out…she had developed impetigo:money::rotfl::T8

I quite enjoyed my home ec lessons, we had to take in our ingredients already weighed out and could buy some via school for 20p an item, Mum always made sure I had a few 20ps invade I’d forgotten to pack anything which each week I seemed to do….or was it the fact that we had Kitkat vending machines that took 20p pieces????8

I remember we had to bring stuff in to make cauliflower cheese in the early 90's. I forgot my cauliflower so had to go round my friends breaking bits off theirs#39 - Save £12k in 20258

I did home economics at school in the mid-late 1970's but was only allowed to do it for 3 years as the top stream girls weren't allowed to continue after our o level options. Consequently I used to know lots about the French Revolution and learned nothing about life skills.
my daughter studied "food technology" - she seemed to spend an entire half term learning how to create exciting variations on a lasagne 🤦♀️8
