We don't have a Farmfoods on the island, but it's definitely on our list of places to visit now, when we leave this island (we found one in Wick, obviously we cannot bring frozen things but the non-frozen stuff/chilled can come over on the boat with us.euronorris said:To get back on topic, for those of you who can get to a farmfoods easily, there are some cracking deals this week. Napolina tomato passata, 500g, at 29p. Batters baby beetroot, 340g, at 59p, Walls Yummies ice lollies, 4 in a pack, 39p (up from 29p, but still a good deal). There are others, but just thought I'd highlight a few that stuck out to me
As for being off topic or not, I don't think discussing how different people see different things as essential really is off topic, it helps us all to remember that while we are all MSE Old Stylers, we are not all in the same situation and do have different priorities and commitments. I love reading how other folk cope, save money, get by, and offer my tips too, but it's helpful to remember we are not all the same or have access to the same resources. Sorry Orkney, I was referring more to house buying affordability and was just trying to draw a line under it and move on as per Taff's suggestionOrkneyStar said:

That's cemented in my mind that I need a trip to FF's then, for the passata alone! Thank you!euronorris said:To get back on topic, for those of you who can get to a farmfoods easily, there are some cracking deals this week. Napolina tomato passata, 500g, at 29p. And bravo to everything said in @OrkneyStar 's posts above - we find this sometimes on DFW - someone posts an SOA and somebody - often a member quite new to the boards, or who doesn't usually spend time on DFW - trots along and tells them that they "must" cut back on this, that or the other. TV packages are something that are often targeted - for someone on a very tight budget, £7 a month on netflix or similar might well be their only "entertainment" spend, and literally the only option they have to wind down and reduce stress - if that is the case then it can be an entirely reasonable spend in pother than the absolute direst of circumstances.

Disappointed. Was hoping it was something to do with buying a river, on tick. Had a little daydream about where my new-to-me river might be, hopefully somewhere close by.... Shall stop looking online for a small boat then.... Not very MSE after all!GaleSF63 said:

This is a bit like the signs you see when driving about to "buy Woodlands" - then when you look into it you find you get a tiny little bit, are responsible for maintaining it, and can't actually do anything at all with it!YoungBlueEyes said:

I’d like everyone’s suggestions for a meal for 30p a day please. I feel a failure for being unable to budget and obviously don’t know how to cook from scratch!

..maybe if he had had a plot, he would know how much time and effort it takes to grow food, and realise that prices can't be lower than they are!
