The main "rule" of net etiquette that's broken every day by most posters on MSE is that if you're quoting a post, it's good manners to trim it down to just the relevant bit rather than simply quoting the whole shebang, but whatever. (This not directed at you, Pollycat: most folk on here do it)
More seriously...do we have a 'prepare for powercuts' type thread? If not, I think one might be a good idea (I'd start it myself but not sure how). I'd recommend keeping powerbanks charged up, if nothing else, its useful for them folks who are classed as a bit vulnerable by the power companies as they're (we're) the ones that get notified by text message about what's happening with normal powercuts, estimated resumption of supply etc. etc. Means in those events they don't need to worry about phones running out of juice. Also useful for things to do in the event of a powercut, like powering kindles if you've run a bit low. I'd also recommend flameless candles, or other sources of light... far safer! (and I say this as someone who spent 3 weeks last February with no heating cos the boiler broke, and we heated our living room with candles - we were constantly alive to the possibility of fire!) There are lots of ideas online for things like having a light source put inside the bottom of an empty clean milk jug to provide a bigger 'glow' - they could be worth sharing.Si_Clist said:

An organisation that goes to the effort of setting up automatic checks for its name probably has the obvious ones covered as well eg T*sco, LLDL.7

Exactly GaleSF63. I can’t think of a way to spell eg Aldi that yous all would recognise but they wouldn’t spot it.Honi swanky malyponze. Or something.4

Handy to remember you can ring 150 from landline or mobile for recorded imfo from distribution co and an estimated time for power restoration This also notifies them that you are off supply21k savings no debt8

Sorry, I do the full quote thing. Most of my posting is done on my phone and I already struggle with the “getting stuck in the grey area” posting with quotes.kethry said:

Off now to do another check on the candles and camping gas ...The chances of deleting lots of sundry quotes without zapping the whole lot and having to start again is fairly minimal so I’m afraid I’m on the leave it as it is setting. Apologies if that annoys people. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.11 -
