Buyer no delivery claim

Good morning all
I sold some trainers on eBay and buyer paid promptly. Unfortunately the parcel was slightly late in being sent so buyer raised a case (by this time 4 days had passed since I sent the trainers). I checked the tracking and they were delivered and signed for 4 hours before he raised the claim. The name on the signature is his surname but the actual signature is XP1 which is the code Royal Mail use for covid.
I contacted him and gave him the tracking and he claims he has not received them, but said he lives next door to a post office so hoping they are left there.
Does anyone know where I stand? I contacted eBay who advise I have to wait until 2nd Feb and ask them to step in and they will side with us as the item is clearly delivered.

Essentially, how can the buyer prove they didn't receive them?
I can’t see a postman advising that surname signed for the item if they didn’t, I understand the XP1 is the code used during the pandemic but I just don’t get his logic here
Sleep well.
yes tracking info loaded to eBay which states delivered
my postman doesn’t, unless I answer my doorbell and ask him to, then that’s on me
don’t know as I haven’t requested it yet as he now wants to Monday to look into it, and until I know what the situation is I don’t see any point as it may be at the post office his flat is above (as he said in one of his messages)
People can be named X1 these days.
