**PLEASE READ** Do not EON let you scam you with a random inflated bill due to THEIR issue

For anyone who uses EON: I was billed £600 this month(January 2022) out of nowhere after receiving a bill back in December 2021(this bill was normal & I actually got some money back). After much back & forth with them I was told that back in 2019 there was an issue with the gas exchange (their fault) and it lead to loads of customers:

1) Not being notified of this;
2) Not being charged for their gas usage properly

So this morning I received a "back bill" from them for £600 for this mistake (they had waivered 50% due to it being their fault). However, this still seemed off to me.

After some digging on their website I came across their billing standards policy which states:
"Our billing standards mean that you, the customer, can only be back-billed for up to one year, where we are at fault"

After informing them of their own standards & that I won't be paying £600 in 2022 for a 2019 problem of theirs.... They are now sorting the bill.

Just a heads up for anyone who uses EON - I have seen lots of people receiving similar large estimated bills in January so please double check the legitimacy of this before paying ANYTHING.

Shame on you, Eon.

So just to double check, you are angry with Eon, because the wanted to charge you for something you used?

Be careful. BackBilling is not a simple write off of charges. If for example, BackBilling was applied for the period 27 Jan 2021 backwards and the total charges were £600 for this period BUT I had paid 12 by £40 per month by Direct Debit then the actual write off would be £600 - £480 or £120. BackBilling is designed with one aim in mind: the prevention of bill shock. It is not there primarily as a supplier sanction.

I think they're saying that the supplier tried to retrospectively bill them for an error which was older than a year, but their T&Cs specifically say they won't.

I read it as the OP being angry with Eon for wanting to charge them retrospectively for charges which they had no way of being aware of previously, which were incurred due to a mistake of Eon's making, and the billing of which breaches Eon's own T's & C's...

    Bet that's not true .

I searched "EON BILL" in Facebook and there has been MANY public posts this month with others having shock bills out of nowhere.

    Exactly this.

Cannot charge me in 2022 for a 3 year old problem of theirs.

Read what I have said. E.oN can retain all the payments that you have made and use these to offset any charges that have been written off under BackBilling. Your post suggests that the supplier will just write off past charges, and add any payments made to your account as a credit,  which I am afraid is incorrect.

    Sorry I do not understand.
Never had a problem with EON in last 3 years, always paid my direct debit and when billed my payment has always come out of that sum of money.

I recieved a Bill in December and everything was normal as it should be (done off my smart meter readings) and I was actually in credit.

Then got a bill on 19th Jan for £200+ and today for £400

OUT OF THE BLUE. NO WHERE.

All for a 2019 issue. They cannot charge me now.
It has been 3 years. Their policies state they cannot back bill me now for something that was explicitly their fault.

I have been to EON with this directly and they confirmed this themselves. I have a copy of their chat transcript.

So, is it the case that Eon under-billed you in 2019, and now they are trying to claim back what the extra you should have paid them? They can't, you got cheap utilities, but you can't blame them for trying.
Hardly a scam, but they are trying it on, and you benefit by pointing out their error to them. Is that what you are illustrating?
