    Thanks Jenni.
I'll get armoured as there is no existing ducting
Is it going to be visible? Cleated armoured cable isn't the most attractive thing.

When you talk about redecorating it's sounds like it may be run inside.
Well, the cable will be inside from the fuse board until it goes outside when it will be outside as I can't park a car inside.

The reason for getting the cable outside is there is a boarded off void above the fuseboard, so I can get the cable run in that void and then replace the board before decorating.  It is a short distance and I'll leave a few m coiled up and capped outside until the future point when an EV arrives from the new car fairies.

I'm quite happy with the look of armoured cable outside and inside will be all concealed assuming done before I decorate.
And as your future proofing but considering using a armoured cable what are you plans for the data cable?

Do I need a data cable for charging an EV?  I assume you mean CAT 5/6 cable.

A smart charger communicates via wireless technology so no data cable required for that. Additional cables will need to be run where sensors need to connect to the charge unit for monitoring solar panels or where load balancing needs to be implemented.

It can be used to connect a load capacity clip to your incoming supply.

Wireless connection to my charger works fine, but some may also prefer hard wired.

The charge point I'll be getting is a Wallbox Pulsar Plus. This connects to your home Wi-Fi but is first setup using Bluetooth. :)

At the moment I have neither EV or solar but both are on the "aspire" list.

It seems as though a single ethernet cable / port might be prudent.  Presumably, if I ever needed an additional port to support EV charger plus solar, that could be done using a local ethernet switch / splitter?
Or does that result in creating a new "network" (which might be less convenient)?

I'm not sure what that means.  Do you mean a monitor, something like this:

I apologise to the OP for hijacking their thread.

Yea exactly. Mine was connected from the charger to the clip using just one twisted pair from a Cat5 cable.

Pretty sure you can get a armoured cable with data cable in one now.

You can, it is pretty useful if you are building a garden office.

For EVCP electric vehicle charging points; the local DNO, Distribution Network operator needs to review the load demand to make sure the local LV  network can cope.

Your approved electrical installer can make the application, you will get a yes or no decision.

    Hope this helps.

Just going through this at the moment, hopefully in time to get the EV grant for an installation before end March.

Applied through podpoint, have sent loads of photos online and waiting for a call back. Suspect we will have issues as the current meter is in the centre rear of the house, so ideally the cable needs to run out the back and round the outside of the house!
