Problems with Amazon

It is an estimate of when the delivery driver will get to you. They cannot predict traffic delays or the time to park. deliver to each premises and get back to van. Does the tracking say outfit delivery? If so, it is on the van. Do you get better service from elsewhere?
To be fair to the OP, there does seem to be consistent problems with Amazon's own delivery company, Amazon Logistics.
We order a lot of stuff from Amazon and get deliveries almost every single day of the week. For the most part Royal Mail, DPD and Hermes are all great but Amazon Logistics rarely deliver in the timeslot they initially advise and far too often end up delivering a whole day late.
For Amazon Logistics the driver's app plans the route and calculates the ETA based on that, however many drivers ignore that and choose their own route, some do it well, others seem to do it incredibly badly. When it lets you see where the driver is based on being 8 stops or fewer away I have watched the route the driver takes and sometimes it can be all over the place and incredibly inefficient. Also, having talked to the Amazon driver that delivers to my home I know that some of the drivers are not just working for Amazon, quite a few of them will be working for 2-3 courier companies at the same time so they will alter their route to account for needing to deliver for multiple courier companies at the same time.

Until recently this wasn't that much of a problem but the new "one-time password" policy means one of us often has to stick around all day now waiting for a parcel which can be a real pain.
Do you get this for lots of orders? I have only had this for high value orders (PS5, computer components etc.) and alcohol, bust most orders are just left outside the door as they often have been for years.
Having said all that, your last comment hits the nail on the head; for all of Amazon's delivery shortcomings they still offer the best mix of convenience, choice, price and service and so Amazon continues to be my first pick for most things I buy.
I agree and they always seem to resolve real issues, rather than minor gripes, which is where the OP's complaint falls.
As has been said, if the OP doesn't feel the same way then simply cancel their Prime subscription - no "higher authority" at Amazon is going to be able to improve their delivery experience.
Totally this, Amazon are not going to change to accommodate one person, so it is a case of accept how they work or go elsewhere.

That all makes sense and while it might work out better for drivers it does leave a poor customer experience so I can envisage Amazon cracking down on this eventually.

Yes the same but that still means that once a week one of us has to hang around the house all day which is seldom convenient; it'll be an even bigger issue in Spring/Summer when we want to be outside in the grounds.
I've been surprised at the value of the goods needing a password; this week there was a £200 hard drive which is fair enough but a £150 dashcam last week and a £120 UPS the week before surprised me - as you say, it does seem to be electronics they are focusing on.
Perhaps one improvement would be for Amazon to insist that password-required deliveries are prioritised and drivers are incentivised/penalised depending on how many are not delivered within the initial timeslot.
Another general improvement Amazon could make would be to allow delayed deliveries at the point of ordering. As crazy as it sounds considering I pay to get next-day delivery, there are times when I know I won't be around the next day so I'd prefer to be able to choose delivery to be a day or two later.

When I am in that situation I order after the cut off time for next day delivery or delay ordering until the next day.
