Premier property lawyers - complaint

Hi, further to many issues with PPL as a result of the data breach we lodged a formal complaint, they have finally responded and offered a "full and final" offer of goodwill!!! Just wondering if anyone else who has formally complained has got responses yet? We are deciding on next step! Thoughts from others in the same boat would be great, thanks

    What more do you want?
  • Well they still haven't concluded their investigation regarding the data breach so are brushing that off and they are seriously underplaying some elements of the complaint.

Is your offer all or more than the fees you would have had to pay? Did your sale/purchase go through?

They didn't charge fees for their work on our purchase as they didn't manage to get that completed, they charged full price fees on our sale and the offer is around a third of those. The offer is pitiful in view of the ongoing stress two months after, still no answers on data breach, and paying additional rent due to their problems delaying our purchase, so no, their offer doesn't cover everything but they don't consider they caused this problem! Pretty shocking response from them really!

What points do you want addressing from them and how much do you think they should give you as comp/redress?

3rd of fees would be c£500 (guess)? What is the number you feel acceptable?

Get all these thoughts together and go back to them.

Have you contacted the Legal Ombudsman at all?

They have offered a 3rd off the work they completed.  If they didn't complete the purchase, then are claiming that because of the breach, it meant you had to rent for 2 more months so want 2 months rent?  So you sold one house (successfully) and then rented and the purchase collapsed?  Unlikely they will pay additional rent.
As for compensation for "stress", the chance of getting more then a 3rd of the cost for that is minimal.  Banks that have issues are don't pay salaries into accounts, or "lose" payments for a few days ultimately end up returning fees they might have charged due to the missing money and giving you about £50!  They "lost" a payment for me once while I was abroad and had no money only a credit card and I got £50, cost me almost £25 calling them and another bank to find out whose fault it was!
The Data Breaches, the ICO fines the companies, you usually get nothing for them, I personally think people should, but that is a whole different issue.
  • Sorry for what you've gone through and sorry that you don't seem to be getting any sympathy from people in this forum. From what I've heard, people that have complained have been offered a £300 goodwill gesture, some people are going further and complaining to the CRC.
