This is nothing more than bringing the UK into line with international practice.

I assume friends of the government feel they have made enough now from it as we are likely nearing the end of the virus in large numbers it's no longer needed.

Well they have a while to sell the LF tests I expect most people use them due to price and time frame) especially as they are a lot cheaper than the PCR for people needing to show a negative test before leaving the country, but hopefully it will mean that those tests will start to get cheaper for travellers now that a big part of the market has dried up.

They'll just move into the tin-foil hat market. Plenty of money to be made there :D

I was joking. I'd hope also that in line with international practice limited testing will still be carried out to check for variants.

Me too, hence the :D I notice that Scotland has followed suit but not the Welsh govt yet, maybe their mates haven't made enough yet they're being more cautious?

  • I'm travelling home on the 12th Feb so won't need a test on arrival. However I will still have to fill in the Passenger Locator Form. I haven't booked an arrival test as I was anticipating this news. At 4am on 11th Feb will the online locator form have been updated to remove the test booking code section? I fear that it won't and I won't be able to complete the form without a code. I'm loathe to book and pay for a test I don't need just so that I can complete the form.
    Hope that makes sense.

You would imagine it would still be there but that page only visible for people who tick they are non-vaccinated earlier on, they have 3 weeks to make the changes to it.
Bear in mind you type in your entry date and time earlier on in the form, so their system will know if you are arriving under the current rules or the new one even if you fill it in on the 10th.

Thanks Emma. I reckon I'll leave it until daytime on the 11th and see what the form looks like then.

Genomic sequencing to detect variants can only be done on PCR tests anyway so Day 2 LFTs were useless for this.

But a PCR should be done if the LFT is positive. I know I'd have no issue with this, and I'm sure many others too.

There is currently a question regarding whether you're required to book a test. The answer to this will be no.
