Avoiding a joint account

My partner and I have begun living together but whilst we don't want a joint account we do want a joint pot we can both use for food etc but in one of our names. So in essence is it possible to get 2 cards on one account in one person's name . If so credit or debit or pre-paid card ?

My husband and I use one of my credit cards, with him as an additional card holder, for all our groceries and domestic expenses. He always transfers more than half to me when the bill is due as he has a better pension. Works for us. (No real reason we use mine, I just had an account with good cash back when we got married)

Yes, a credit card with a second cardholder is fine, but
    • only the main cardholder is liable for the debt,
    • cash withdrawals are expensive

Joint account prepaid cards exist too, but, again, there will always be some fees.

You can with credit card. But why not just open a 2nd (joint) bank account for the bills?

Maybe they dont want their credit ratings linked?

@andju6290 FairFx could fit the bill - no charge for holding their Mastercard card, multiple cards drawing money from the same current account.

I think you need to get their Currency card first, along with the app to manage it, and then you can add additional cards. If you go for this, check out e.g. Topcashback whether you can get a bonus to join.

@andju6290 another low cost option could be Tesco Clubcard Pay+. It is a  free preloaded card but you only get one card. So one of you would use the Tesco card, and the other the normal debit card. The attraction might be the regular cashback you get with that card although you need to be a big spender to get any sizeable amount.

I have a card that allows me access to my MiL's NatWest account and make purchases from it.  She had to sign specific forms that would allow it and means that I can also do online transactions for her.  But it's her account solely and is not joint.  It's an intermediate step for us as we don't have a PoA in place for her that includes me but means that I can manage things on her behalf.  (yes we should get the POA sorted.)

I have signed up myself for the FairFX Mastercard card, taking advantage of the £20 signup offer on one of the cashback sites. For this, I had to load the FairFX card at the time of ordering the card. That equates to a 4% cashback, 4 times as much as I get with my Chase card. The cashback tracked nearly instantly; payment estimated ~4 weeks.

I now need to wait for the physical card to arrive before I can start spending my £500. It is promised to arrive in 3-5 working days. Shame they don't give you the card details in the app immediately. The app also doesn't offer biometric login, which is a bit backwards in 2022.

There is a min 3.5% cashback offer with small selection of UK retailers as follows:
