Grumpy_chap said:I just cleared out the old TV to the charity shop - amazing how much heavier that was than the new one.
I noticed that the receipt says I paid £485 in 2008 for that TV.
With inflation, that would be around £700 today.
So, the new TV at £264 plus the higher specification comparatively is an absolute bargain - like getting 2/3rd off!
New one only need to last ~7years to match that
Even top end TV at £1k 55" OLED from the likes of RS with 6y warranty come in at £3.20 if you replace then but more likely to last longer.

It truly was 70 pence per week as we don't have any subscription services.
Maybe need to add the TV licence cost, though that is unchanged irrespective of the actual TV or any subscription services.0 -
Check out the energy use of the old TV cf the new as that'll be a bigger cost than pure depreciation.0

In there I commented that the new TV (60W) I just purchased would cost £130 in electric if on all the time, or around £11 based on 2 hours per day so pay-back time would be 18 years even if electricity demand was down to nil.
The old TV it replaced had a power rating of 140W, so a big energy saving, but still not enough to justify the purchase of a TV:
