WeBuyAnyCar.com - Is Their Quote What They Will Pay?
Hi all
My car recently died - 61 plate 1.0 Corsa Eco - requiring a head gasket change, plus a few other bits + MOT in a fortnight. I reckon I can get it all fixed for around £800, but I wasn't going to bother because I thought I wouldn't get that at trade-in, and I was thinking of getting a new car anyway. I don't especially want to keep it and was going to have it scrapped and get a miniimal value for it (£100-ish???).
I got a quote from WeBuyAnyCar.com last night for a surprising £1,395, which obviously makes it worth being repaired, before going to them. Now, the car is in an excellent condition, but it does have 91k miles on the clock (which I have disclosed) and has no real visible dents / scratches / battle scars. The car is nearly 11 years old, so does have a few paint chips etc.
Now if I am going to pay £800 for the car to be repaired, I don't want WeBuyAnyCar to start knocking lumps off for worn tyres / faded paint etc - I don't want to be out of pocket is all.
Does anyone out there have any wise words of advice?
Thanks for reading.

We buy any car are known to take money off when they inspect the cars.

You'd be safer doing the repairs and selling it privately.
WBAC are reknowned for finding "issues" with the car upon their inspection - such as stone chips, minor dings, scuffed wheels, incomplete full service history, etc. They could easily find £500 reduction on the price of an older car.
I'd do the work and sell it privately, OR sell it on ebay for "spares or repairs" with clear description on its issues, 99p starting price, get what you can for it. I think you'll be very surprised what it makes.1 -
My experience of WeBuyAnyCar is that they do knock off money for any and all items you have not disclosed but they paid me exactly what they said and I was impressed(and did not expect to be) by the whole experience. Maybe selling it privately would have netted me more but there was no hassle and it was done quickly0

I'd try CarTakeBack or similar for a quote.0

If you are very honest you shouldn't have a problem. If they then bring something up you can say I disclosed that.
It might be worth digging out acceptable damage for folk when they return lease cars that will give you a guide as to what to mention.
many people try to blag it then start crying when WBAC start to pick up the faults.0 -
Rather than scrapping why not try advertising "as is"? Some private mechanic may well pay what you'd end up with after paying for the repair yourself as it will only be their time to actually fix it.
Your view on the value would make you the ideal seller if I was buying a car to fix. £100 for a car worth £1395 that needs a head gasket would be a bargain. I could sell the parts for way more than that if all went badly wrong with engine.
EDIT - one sold on eBay with suspected HG failure for £1000 so I wouldn't bother repairing yourself, just sell it.

Plenty of good points there to think about. Not sure which way I'll go right now, but thanks to all for your comments2

Webuyanycar staff used to be incentivised to knock the price down, but I don't know if that was stopped after there was some outrage when it leaked. They will land you with a buying fee (£20ish) and a fast payment fee, and try to know money off, so you won't get the headline price.
Used cars are in huge demand at the moment, so if WBAC are offering £1395 you can probably sell it privately for about £1500.
It'll be a good runabout for someone and should be a good buy with all the repairs done properly.
In the same vane with used car prices, someone will buy it off you to repair and sell on.

I've heard some stories of people getting exactly what was quoted, but I gave them a try when selling my wife's Smart car recently, and despite it being immaculate other thanb two wheels being scuffed (which I'd acurately described when requesting a price) they still decided to knock over £1,000 off, from something like £9,500 to £7,800.
I politely declined, and not long afterwards Mercedes agreed to pay me £9,000 to buy it in for them to sell.

If it’s your first offer from WBAC, it’s likely over the next 2/3 weeks it may increase.Mortgage free
