TYTN II or N95??

I was offered a free upgrade on Orange, either the TYTN II or the N95.
They both have pros and cons so very difficult to decide.
I would appreciate feedback from actual users.

Thanks!

  • Not a user of either at the moment, but i've been through the comparison game on these two and it very much depends on what you are looking for.
My preference is the TYTN 2 mainly because I currently have Vario and really like it. I also want a full querty keyboard and prefer the applications available from 3rd parties for the PPC OS.
I also like the touch screen feature of the HTC devices.
These maybe subjective, but I understand the battery life is better on the HTC although I can't believe by much as all these functions need to be powered, and the GPS seems to be better at getting and holding a signal - but thats just based on comments I've read about both devices.
Either way, you shouldn't be disappointed with either of these phones for free if you like your gadgets ;-)
  • I've been an avid user of the original TyTN and have now just got my mits on the TyTN 2.
I personally prefer the windows mobile platform due to the applications that I run on it.
The full slide-out keyboard is a real plus and now that the GPS is built in...... well I guess it isn't hard to guess my recommendation :o)

I have the N95 myself and a TyTN II for work.

I find the full keyboard a little fiddly on the TyTN II but if you're typing emails or a fair amount of text, it would still be better than the N95 T9 system. The TyTN II is more of an office phone and the N95 geared towards personal customers, hence the better camera, smaller size etc on the N95.

Both have GPS built in, although I've only used the N95 software for navigating. Not the greatest, but it usually works ok.

The N95 has several firmware updates which have stablised the OS and improved GPS. I have v12, but v20 is now out for generic N95's.

I prefer the TyTN II WM6 as an OS over the N95 Symbian, although I found it can be a little slow under load.

Any other questions, feel free to ask.
  • Not an exact comparison but I have an N95 and an o2XDA Mini S, which is an HTC phone similar to TYTN. I find using the touch screen in phone mode not very responsive.

The N95 is a really good phone, albeit battery life is not great. I drive a lot so can usually charge in the car. If I am out on business not in the car I use one of those charging devices that charges the phone from an AA battery - enough to keep me going. The sat nav is pretty poor, in comparison to the Tom Tom I run on the XDA. I find email easy to send an recieve on the N95, with four email accounts set up. Also web browsing is pretty good, I use Yell, Google and even access/post on this site from the N95. I can manage on line banking too. Works best in 3G coverage, or also on WIFI. Camera is good 5 MP, the MP3 is adequate, saves carrying two devices, the FM radio works well. Also I use the diary function and synch with Outlook on my laptop, which I find useful.

All in all I am pretty impressed with the N95.
