Windscreen repair counted as an accident to declare despite doing it under my windscreen cover

Let me google that for you...Only kidding before you put me on ignore! :-)The insurance companies will take any opportunity to mark things as an "at fault" claim.I had it happen to me when I made a claim for some damage done to my car when it was parked perfectly legally.Their attitude is that it's always someone's fault and if they can't identify anybody else, then it's your fault.I suppose the windscreen repair is still a claim; if you take up any other of the insurance options, I guess they'd constitute a claim too.So, in taking out windscreen cover you're paying for the ability to make a claim. That said, if you have a protected NCB, it doesn't particularly matter and in my case the renewal didn't seem to be affected.1

It counts as a fault glass claim, most insurers wont rate on it if there is just the one but thats an individual company decision. Some insurers will exclude glass cover if there have been excessive number of glass claims in the past.
If you look at the like of Confused.com when declaring claims there is a specific section for glass/windscreen and so you use this rather than the RTC type options.0 -
Admiral certainly counts it as claim in their history. It's listed on the policy and as soon as it was 3 years from last claim, price went down. I was amending policy with some small detail and also pointed out that it's more than 3 years from last windscreen claim and they recalculated it for me.
Last time, I had cracked passenger window, I just paid for it myself, to avoid paying extra for insurance in future. Autoglass gave me OEM glass (no other option anyway) and I paid less than dealer wanted. Also less hassle than going to dealer, as Autoglass came to my work and did it in 30 minutes.

The repair wasn't free - someone has paid, just not you.The comment is not pointles but correct - The Insurance Company make the rules and you agree them when you take out the policy, it makes no difference what we might think.Just because you don't like the answer is no reason to insult people.

Whilst you might be cross the insurers class a windscreen repair as a claim the fact is it is a claim on the policy.
Worth considering you can now buy resin kits for £10 which will do multiple chip repairs. If you take your time and follow the instructions fully they are actually very good. I have repaired a couple of chips.
What they won't do is sort the massive crack all the way across your screen and this is why it is always worth having windscreen cover. Had to have my screen replaced last year and it would have cost over £500 so the £75 excess felt a bargain. Yes I have to declare it on both our policies but it does not effect the price.
As an etiquette point people give up their time to offer free advice on here so try not to be rude to them. Feel free to put me on ignore if that offends you.2 -
If everyone had the same attitude about putting people on ignore simply because they disagreed with what they say, this forum would be a very quiet place indeed.1
