Credit Card Collection Agency after death

I wonder if it's a credit card thing, my mum's card issuer (Co-Op Bank) was the only organisation of all the ones I dealt with that required sight of a certified copy of the Will before confirming the balance on the account so that I could pay it from the executor account. You'd think when they're trying to get money from you they'd be more, well, co-operative!

The bit about "it didn't matter if I was executor of estate" is nonsense. An executor is entitled to the deceased's financial information as if they were the deceased, that's why they're also called a "personal representative".Kimbooley said:It wouldn’t surprise me - the CC folk flat out refused to even give me the figure to pay when I notified of them her death saying I wasn’t the account holder and it didn’t matter if I was next if Kin and executor of estate.
However, the CC company would be within their rights to ask for the grant of probate to prove your authority, although that would usually be over the top. If they've sold the debt on to the debt collectors, and you already have a statement to reconcile what the debt collectors tell you, there's little point pursuing the CC issuer.

That’s what I thought. But to be clear, the only reason I chased the CC company was to find out when (considering it’s almost 3 weeks since she passed away) they would pass the damn file over to the collection agency as I just want it all cleared and done with. I’m sat here wanting to pay and it’s a drawn out “oh I don’t have that information” faff. After many calls to the collection agency I’m just being told “if we have the file it isn’t loaded to our systems yet so you just need to wait for a letter from us” but when I ask how long this will take they just say they can’t say. Great. Thanks. Was really hoping to have everything settled and put to bed before the funeral.Malthusian said:

She’s been gone 4 weeks today and they still haven’t contacted me and whenever I chase them they just tell me “we haven’t received this onto our system yet”. I’ve never know debt so difficult to pay up!0

Finally - I got it sorted! One less thing to contend with. Thanks everyone for your input x3
