"Insurance groups" are mostly a marketing gimmick used by people who sell small engined cars. They are not generally used by insurers to set prices and have very little correlation to actual insurance premiums.GKOOGK said:I insured my group 23 bmw in July 2024..in November 2024 i replaced it with a group 3 smart car Aviva said its fine no extra charge ?....so can i go UP 20 groups and also have no extra charge ?

My 19 year old drives a group 27 car which is significantly cheaper (by 50-70%) to insure than the group 1-6 cars other friends drive around in. He is probably the only 19 year old in the country driving a beige automatic Volvo estate, so I guess that significantly skews the accident and claims data on which insurers will likely have several hundred billion data points at their disposal.GKOOGK said:I insured my group 23 bmw in July 2024..in November 2024 i replaced it with a group 3 smart car Aviva said its fine no extra charge ?....so can i go UP 20 groups and also have no extra charge ?

I used to be with Admiral multi car, but last year I found itt was cheaper to get both cars insured seperately, and insured our 2nd car with Aviva. This year I got a quote from Avivia for "multi car", but for some strange reason it was about £200 cheaper to insure them separately (with Aviva)??

Aviva are a massive organisation and not a one trick pony. They have some budget, but not bottom of the barrel, propositions and they do the start of High Net Worth policies. You will not get the same claims experience across the whole range of the products they sell but then the premiums will also be vastly different from bottom to top.blackstar said:I am pretty sure I will go with Aviva for Car Insurance.
However, I would like to know of those who have made a claim how it went as reviews on google etc can be alot of people who want to vent frustration and rightly so. So trying to get a more balanced view by asking here. Hope some can chip in please?
You only know how good a insurance company is once you make a claim, customer service means little if making a claim is a nightmare.
Have insured with them many times in the past but never had to claim on Motor. I have had a claim on a policy written by them for Home, it couldn't have been easier nor barely quicker BUT the third party they outsourced the claim to be settled by is a former client of mine so I may not have had typical treatment (there was a 2 hour delay whilst they made sure Aviva didnt consider them conflicted)0 -
Aviva may be even bigger soon as they a looking to buy the Direct Line business.
As has been mentioned, they are multiple offerings from Aviva Zero through to Aviva Platinum which all have different levels of cover, different levels of service etc.
You need to make sure that the option you select has the right levels of cover (e.g. Courtesy car guarantee) and Service (e.g. all online or with call centres) that you need. Buy cheap with big expectations you will be disappointed. Buy the right insurance for your needs and Aviva will be one of the safer bets as to a decent consistent service.0 -
Aviva also operate under General Accident (GA), which is their comparison site brand.

You also have the choice of an online only service which is cheaper or more expensive service where you get to speak to people.
I have the AA cover bundled in with mine. As I am currently sitting in a car park waiting for them to turn up, I may be able to feedback on that later this afternoon! All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
Aeges tried to buy DLG earlier in the year but were rebuked. DLG have said no to Aviva too but if that stands or not is another matter.400ixl said:Aviva may be even bigger soon as they a looking to buy the Direct Line business.

Aeges seem to have given up and moved on to look at eSure as a potential acquisition having said they want to grow in the UK market and eSure being owned by PE may be an easier target.
They have both lower and higher than those... I find it amusing that in the Private Client motor you call "concierge" rather than claims0
