Anyone used Aviva for their car insurance?

Hello all,

I am pretty sure I will go with Aviva for Car Insurance.

However, I would like to know of those who have made a claim how it went as reviews on google etc can be alot of people who want to vent frustration and rightly so. So trying to get a more balanced view by asking here. Hope some can chip in please?

You only know how good a insurance company is once you make a claim, customer service means little if making a claim is a nightmare.

I use the online version. Actually got a renewal quote that was £9.16 less than last years quote (£300+). Change of details etc are free. Never had to claim though. Again it is all online.

I looked at them but when I filtered the trustpilot reviews for people who'd made claims I found them to be offputting. I know that people generally only report bad experiences but I felt there were comparatively more of them than for other companies.
Caveat -this was their online version which I also found offputting because I do like to know there's someone there to discuss queries with if I need to. When I look at their other quote it was more expensive (for obvious reasons) so I've gone elsewhere.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

I had a particularly difficult claim about 10 years ago, they handled it very well and their valuation of my vehicle was way more than I was expecting.

Whilst not car insurance, Ive made a travel insurance claim and home emergency claim (although it was homeserve i dealt with) and my grandparents have previously made home insurance claims with Aviva. All times I had no issues with them and my claims were handled very well.

Aviva is a big organisations selling a wide range of policies via different distribution channels... its hard to know from a review if the person bought the budget policy via a broker and they are wrongly pointing the finger at Aviva for getting budget service or if they've bought a high quality product directly and so are aiming their comments at the right organisation.

Have had home insurance with them (through a white label) and car insurance (direct via their main proposition and via brokers) but never had a claim to honestly comment on that side. When dealing with servicing issues etc I always found them good on the Home side but have the partnership paid extra for better service or is that just the standard across all parts? Cant say.

We've been with aviva on and off for the last 20 years.  Made a couple of claims.  Both handled well.

Note that you pay an additional excess if you want to use a repairer not in their network.  But their repairer did a good job.
  • Used them once but usually I'll switch providers each year to save money.
  • We have had them on and off for the cars for years. Usually they’re very cheap for a couple of years, then go up, I leave, then 12 months later they’re competitive price wise again.

Claim wise, we have done one accident claim and two glass repairs through them. All very easy, all quick, all good communication.

    Thumbs up from me.
