  • Grr.  Assumed I was safe and fixed until 2023.  Thought it was an offshoot of the council seem I was wrong!  Hi hum expect a 50% rise I suppose.

    And then likely another 50% in April when the Standard variable Cap is raised.
  • In the last week I've had an email from Bristol energy asking for a meter reading. I have to question if it's genuine and should I give a reading? It looks like my account is now already set up with BG and I've set the app up also. I did take screen shots of the app and meter readings as advised. 

    Has anyone else had the email? Any advice from MSE?

    Meter reading reuests after comapnaies have gone into administration are quite normal. My advise is to submit reading when requested.

    I had this yesterday too. I submitted a meter reading as requested. 

    What might be interesting is that I've already submitted 2 meter readings to BG. And I've had 3 different dates mentioned from BG as to when they became my supplier. What Date BE will bill me up to and what date BG bill me from seems a bit fluid at the moment. 

    I've not had any account details from BG but I did register with them when they requested it. Is that what people are talking about when they say their account is set up? I certainly don't have an account number yet.

  • Thanks for the advice. I've submitted the readings as advised. I have as yet submitted any to BG but a definitely do have an account number for both gas/electricity. I was under impression they was taking over my account from Feb 10th hence the original question. It does still looks to be a little up in the air so see how this plays out. I've also taken a screenshot should they decide to estimate my bill as they have done in the past.

    I was wrong above as I do have an account. It was set up when I registered but I received no email or snail mail confirmation.
    I put in an updated meter reading and it helpfully told me I'd spent £24.76 in 15 days and suggested I make a payment so I put in a lump sum to cover about 2 months usage. I then had a helpful message saying I could save money by paying by direct debit. However, the figure they gave was an average saving which I thought was a bit naughty as the Welcome Together tariff can be paid anyway you like and makes no difference. Something to be aware of if you haven't put in a second meter reading yet.

    PS the 24.76 was not a bill it was just how much I'd used so far. My first bill will come later.

    23rd January is the date that BG became responsible for your supply.
    You will see other dates that reflect the point when the supplier ID on your account changed to BG, but that has no impact on the billing dates.
    So BE will produce a final bill up to the 23rd at some point and BG will bill you from the 23rd, but they may initially bill you from a later date and then come back to complete the billing from the 23rd once BE have produced the final bill.

    Whatever they are asking for now could only be used to estimate at reading as at 23rd Jan, they can only ever bill up to that date as they lost their supply license at that point.
    It may also just be an automated process they have still left running.
